Has anyone here every gotten this and had to go to get a kidney ultrasound or go to a urologist for a checkup when an infection doesn't go away with antibiotics? Its always something! I'm very anxious about everything... can someone reassure me this isn't a huge deal? [Frown]

If it's not one thing, it's another, huh?! I don't know anything specific to help you, but are they sure there is still an infection there??

Interstitial Cystitis behaves like an infection, but does not show up as one.

Do you have a lot of pain?? Where??

[group hug] Stephanie!

an infection is actually showing up, pus in the urine he said, not to be gross, sorry... this is after being on 2 antibiotics for a period of 12 days maybe.... I didn't have any symptoms really, but after taking the antibiotics I started feeling like I had a urinary infection and now have a few kidney pains here and there... imagine that? Not that anything surprises me anymore! Any words of wisdom or encouragement will help.. I'm mentally a mess! [Frown] And of course I don't have my ultrasound until next Tues. and the other doc appt. Wed of next week.!

Where do I begin?
Two months after I was supposedly cured of Lyme Disease by PCP with three weeks antibiotics(LOW DOSE) I began to have terrible UTI's-yes, there was pus to confirm it.

After the third one I was sent to a urologist-who did the kidney ultrasound thing, retrograd study(?). It was out patient, sedated, he said everything seemed normal-small cyst on kidney. But when I took my first pee after procedure the pain was excruciating.

Urologist didn't know why since they supposedly given me a dose of lidocaine(sp) and nobody had ever complained before. Actually he was a jerk.

Pain and infections continued and I was refered by gynocologist to a Urogynecologist-what a godsend he was. He diagnosed Interstitial Cystitis even before he did the Urodynamics testing-which only confirmed his diagnosis.

I have been treated for Interstitial Cystitis now for a year, I've also been treated for Lyme for a year-by LLMD. The pain is gone as well as chronic UTI's.

And keep us informed. I've been down that road, and it's no fun-I felt pretty desperate at times, but I feel really grateful now to have found the right doctor and the right diagnosis.

I used to have UTI's so often that I almost went crazy...and yes I even went to the urologist, not only for an Ultrasound but even CT Scan was ordered.I had a citology of my urine.

As always nothing showed up....

IMO my frequent UTI's were caused because of "unbalanced" flora in my bladder....even candida can grow there.Bb too..

I had many different infections...you name it ..I had it, E coli, Klebsiella, Enteroccocus Faecalis...etc.

What worked for me:

Definitely urine cultures and sensitivities. Even if results are negative try 2 more times,,,In my case it would even take a third culture!
The sensitivities to the abxs that might clear up the infection is a must.

The last UTI I had even caused kidneys pains....and what happened is that even after treating it with the right abx I still had cloudy urine....at the end we found out candida was involved and maybe was worst than the UTI.

The frequency of my UTI decreased significantly after treating bartonella with leva for 5 months.

And of course drinking once a day a very good cranberry juice. I drink lakewood's brand, not from concentrate but from fresh pressed cranberries it tastes really bitter but is the right stuff...and as always is $$$$.

Whenever I see the words Bladder infection, i am compelled to mention the use of cranberry juice for it, and how it gives excellent results. Just worth a mention. [Smile]

word of caution-cranberry juice is contra-indicated if the problem is interstitial cystitis.

I have found a non-antibiotic handling for urinary infections that works for me! Apparently, bacteria can't "stick" if the urinary tract is processing D-Mannose, a simple sugar. I get a product called U-Tract from Kordial Products, phone 1-877-KORDIAL.

I have had no recurrance of UTI since using this product about 2 years ago.

A friend of mine also tried it, buying her supply from me, and was infection free in about 3-5 days.

Best,

Cass A

Faith...here are some links on IC. Maybe something there will sound familiar to you.

As Cobweb said, the pus, in her case, was from the IC, not an infection.
