I do know that the Gential Wart Virus can be found in Hot Tubs that are not well kept. Hotel hot tubs can cary the virus (it get distributed in the water by a person with the virus taking a dip), and if you take a dip, you can get it.
A well kept hot tub is not a problem. Just some can be a real problem. One of my mother's friends (along with a bunch of other people) got warts from a poorly managed hot tub at her gym. This was in the 80s. I think the gym had to close due to law suits.
I REALLY hope this helps. I am so sorry to hear this happend to you.

I don't know of a connection to Lyme (wouldn't rule it out), but I do know that genital warts are one of those issues that can be dormant for years, and suddenly rear their heads when your immune system is down.
Many moons ago, I taught classes on STDs - and our textbook used the example of an 80 year old women, widowed for 18 years, who had an outbreak of genital warts or herpes (can't remember which).
Could be that with Lyme, your immune system is taking a hit and old viruses are reactivating.

80% of people carry the virus that causes genital warts. A "pap" smear is looking for that exact virus. It seems plausible that you may have had it (like 80% of people do) and that your immune system being suppressed led to an activation of a dormant/latent virus.

I agree with what Scott said. Most sexually active people (80%) have been exposed to HPV. Some people develop actual warts, some get cervical cancer from the virus but have no visible warts. Many people have good immune systems that fight it off. I read an article that said a woman could be exposed to it but not develop warts for 20 years or more.
