I am perplexed. I was on Biaxin and Plaquenil for three years. During that time, my periods became heavier and heavier and I started to have bad clots.

I didn't think much about it, but as time went on, it became more of a problem (I am a teacher) and more painful.

My OB/GYN tested me for fibroids this fall and only found a couple of polyps that might or might not cause such problems. Further testing was inconclusive. Today I went in for an endometrial biopsy.

In the meantime, I was finally able to go off meds on Dec. 31st (as per my LLMD), and I noticed that within a month or so, my periods were normal.

I had to return to meds in March and this past period was back to being heavy and clotty. I mentioned the possible connection between the meds and these problems today at the biopsy appt. My OB/GYN doesn't know of any reason that abx and anti-malarial meds would cause this.

Has any of you had similar problems? Do you know why it happens? Any treamtents?

I am so tired of Lyme dictating my life.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Julie

Hi Julie,

I have had similar problems with my meds and periods. I believe some of my problems are due to the lyme/pituatory connection, and others are from meds.
It seems that whenever I switched meds, I will either get a prolonged period or miss it totally for the month.
I wish I more information to give you, but all I can say is that you are not alone.

I know while on Malarone and zithromax, my periods were mostly clots.

They also came anywhere between twenty days to 30 days.

Off of the babs treatment, and they have seemed to stabilize.

Closer to a 30 day cycle with minimal clots.

I guess this is something else I have to look forward to as I am going to revisit babs treatment again....soon.

Hugs,

Geneal

I had heavy miserable periods from Lyme and babs before I ever got meds and diagnosed.

My anxiety use to sometimes kick in heavily one to two days before my period.

Hi Julie,

I have had heavy periods for as long as I can remember and taking meds for Babesia would trigger double periods for me. (2 in one month)

The only thing that has made my periods better is treating the Babesia. After about 2 years I noticed my periods changing for the better. This is just my personal experience.

Hang in there.

Julie, have U been tested and clinically screened by a LLMD for Co-infects including Bart & Babs? What about metals, parasites, molds etc?

Seems like many who don't progress on standard Lyme treatment have these above issues. My LLMD said they are either tick-born or brought on by Lyme's immunosuppresive effect.

You probably need to be checked for hypercoagulation.

Sorry you're experiencing this!

Hmmmmmm...Funny that this is mentioned. While on Doxy, I spotted between my periods (I have never spotted in 27 years) and had a very long period. (11 days). I thought it was the Piroxicam maybe causing a bleed issue but hearing that others are experiencing the same makes me really wonder.

Thank you all for your responses. It is reassuring to know that others have experienced this and that I am likely not imagining the connection!

I have not been tests for Babs or Bart. I see a very good LLMD (whom many on this board see) and though he does test fo coinfections, he has not with me; he just didn't feel that I had any symptons that were specific to those.

I see him again in a few weeks, and I definitely plan to ask him. My relapsing in general has me wondering if there is something else going on that is not being resolved by my current treatments.

Thank you all fo your help.

Julie

Julie, I never tested + for Babs & Bart yet had all the clincal sxs. I had to switch LLMDs to one who would treat me & address the metals & fungus, but it was worth it. Sxs that didn't respond to standard abx responded. Got me out of bed after a year of wasting away.

Good luck
