Has anyone been able to get insurance coverage for Genotropin Miniquicks? Does it helps with symptoms?

A year ago, I was told by the Fibro & Fatigue Clinic (FFC) that I was barely making any growth hormone after extensive blood work. They kept pushing a $22 supplement called Gamma Grow which didn't work.

I've been trying to get a prescription for hGH the past year. My compounding pharmacist says this would help me tremendously. After many unsuccessful attempts with many other doctors I finally have a prescription. So far we can't get it filled unless we pay $365 out of pocket.

The prescription keeps being rejected. I have Express Scripts and this drug is listed on their formulary. The insurance company says the doctor needs to give them information. My doctor says he's provided them with the information they need.

A nice catch 22 and guess who is the loser in this game? They reject claims for compounded medications on a regular basis but they are all too happy to accept our monthly donation (premium).

munch,
WHO is your insurance carrier?

mine is wellmark/bcbs/iowa ... they rejected ALL compounded RX meds since they were prescribed by a NON-COVERED LLMD.

i had them refile them; they paid ALL of those for 2006; having problems with them paying for SAME compounded meds this year.

filed an APPEAL on those plus $3800 out of pocket lyme expenses for appts., lab tests, $1,000 RX supplements! last time; i'm exhausted since i'm fighting my health and HUBBY'S severe other problems; i don't need to fight everyone every day! life's too short for this hog wash!! [cussing]

I don't know what Genotropin Miniquicks is but last I checked `human growth hormone' treatment was incredibly expensive - $10,000+ a year and that was awhile back.

I suspect that is why your insurance company - via Express Scripts - is stalling, with the hope that you will just give up.

If you can find out what Express Scripts claims they don't have from your doctor, and FAX that information to them with a `delivery confirmation' sheet, you will probably get the hGH. If not, contact your state insurance commissioner.

I wonder how many Lymies would be found to be deficient in hGH? I know that a lot of Fibro patients are.

Our insurance covers HGH if it is prescribed by an endocrinologist.
