Does anyone have an explanation for why I get flushing, heart palpitations, bronchospasm, rapid and slowed breathing for 20 minutes at a time in 4 hour intervals after taking Mepron for babesiosis? That is, these events occur every four hours and last around 20 minutes. The first event occurs about 45 minutes after taking the drug.

The flushing and heart palpitations are probably a herx. The change in breathing and bronchospasms are probably also a herx.
The babesia affects the brainstem which affects the autonomic nervous system(ANS). The ANS affects your breathing patterns, heart, swallowing and all those involuntary reactions.
The bronchospasms could also be the beginning of an allergic reaction where the throat is shutting down. So, just in case have bendryl ready. They have bendryl tongue strips, tablets, and capsules you can buy.
Also it's a good idea to have an epipen ready. It's by prescription from the MD. When I start something new I have my bendryl and epipen ready but I have had all those symptoms with mepron and zith and have never had to use the allergic reaction things.
