It has to be T.O.A. Cat's Claw, and not just regular Cat's Claw.

Hi, The Cat's claw should be TOA FREE!!! Many use the brand Samento. I recently purchased Saventaro by Better World sold at Sprouts Market in their vitamin supplement section. Type TOA free cat's claw in a google search for more information. Hope that helps.

I tried it initially, and couldn't tolerate more than three drops a day. I felt overall pretty horrible on it.
I'd still use it despite the herx because it comes up on so many lists as the herb of choice...
but every time I or my practitioner muscle tests for it we come up with a negative.
I do better on Berberis, Artemisia, Teasel Root, and fresh garlic.

I tried it in conjunction with months of abx and palquenil. I have heard it is very effective, and I can believe it, but I had such a strong reaction to it that I had to stop. Perhaps my dosage should have been less.

Yeah, me too. After I figured out I have late lyme; I finally realized that my twice broken ankle was likely due to the neuropathy in my legs per my neuro. And I thought I was just clumsy.

I dont know it cats claw is good enough to handle lyme disease on it's own. I actually started treating with it at first and saw a small amount of improvement then about a month into I was in a stalemate. It will work good in conjunction with other treatments like ABX, heat, salt/c, herbs...

Cat's claw for me is like sleeping pills, improving my sleep immediately, from 3hrs to around 6hrs straight.

Folks, although I have been taking Cat's Claw for 21 months now, I just decided a couple of days ago to stop it for awhile and see what happens.
I won't stop all the other herbs though, just the Cat's Claw.
I find that Devil's Claw does a lot more for me than the other herbs, anyway.

JimBob, how much of the Devil's Claw do you take a day (in milligrams)?
Also, do you still think it helps with your joint pain, as well as the other things you mentioned?
(I'm giving Devil's Claw to my dog in homeopathic form bsed on advice from an animal homeopath, and it has really helped his arthritis.)

I've been using it since 2005!
Mainly the whole herb, not TOA free. I had a difficult start (few first months) but then my body got used to it.
It's a very valuable herb for treatment. For me, so far the longest term herb I've been taking to fight lyme.
It keeps testing good (muscle tests) for much longer than Samento (I use PC-Samento).
Sometimes, whole cats claw stops to test, then the Samento starts to test good (kinesiological tests), but never for very long (few days). Then I'm back to the rain-tree brand, non-stop again.
I'm on 2 "00" capsules a day. I never needed much of it to improve. I tried to stop it few days ago, lazy to do my own capsules. Two days later, my body was asking other sups to 'substitute' the cats claw, that I decided to be less lazy and do the capsules again. Now I'm back to a reduced lyme protocol again.
I just came back from a two day hiking tour in the mountains, tomorrow will do again another!
It's not a solo herb to fight lyme, but it's a damm important herb!! At least for me.

Hi Tracy:
Yes, I think it is good for the arthritis also, and inflammation. As a matter of fact THAT is what Buhner recommends it for. And WHY I started taking it. But discovered how great my vision got with just ONE pill back in 2005. It produced a lot of gas and for me with my ileostomy and I had a terrible night that first night with it, and I was going to quit it as soon as I started it.
But the next day, my vision got so good, I could hardly believe what I was seeing. It was fantastic. So I didn't quit, and the rest is pretty much history.
I did stop it a couple times later, once because I ran out, and my vision got worse. Then another time I stopped just to make sure that it WAS the Devil's Claw that was making my vision so much better. And it was.
Right now I am on a maintenance regimen of herbs. The only ones I didn't cut down much were the Devil's Claw and Sarsaparilla.
I take THREE "00" size capsules of the Devil's Claw, TWO times a day. And the same for Sarsaparilla.
I only take my herbs twice a day now. Have been for a few months.
I am not sure of exactly HOW many milligrams each capsule is, as I haven't weighed them, but I am guessing around 600mg for each capsule; give or take 25mg.
And we are talking 6 capsules a day, so around 2250 to 2550 mg's a day.

That helped a lot, JimBob - exactly the information I was looking for - thanks!
Well, I guess if the Devil's Claw in capsules doesn't agree with me, I can always try taking the same thing I'm giving my dog.

Congrats and thanks for info on devil's claw!!
Tracy, I wonder what would happen if you ingest this homeopathic devil's claw!!! What's the technical name of it? Which potency did your dog use?

Hi, Selma!
Okay are you ready for this? The Latin (homeopathic) name for Devil's Claw is ``Harpagophytum procumbens''.
Here's what the animal homeopath (he's in Europe) told me to do for my dog:
``...... give Harpagophytum procumbens 3c (or 6x or 3k), one dose 3 times a day for 4-6 months, but it usually has to be given permanently in which case a maintenance dose of once or twice a day is often enough. This remedy is not very well known in several countries, but it's a very important remedy for especially older dogs with arthritis of the large joints such as the knee and hip. Improvement should be seen after 2-3 weeks, sometimes earlier.''
So, please note that it is NOT CURATIVE. It simply helps to alleviate symptoms (at least in this potency). An additional remedy was prescribed for my dog for more lasting effects, which was specific for my dog's symptoms, and now he is off that remedy but still on the Harpago as maintenance.
I had to order this remedy from London - no USA homeopathic labs have it. But before I did that, I made up my own Harpagophytum remedy using a strong `tea' made from the contents of capsules containing pure Devil's Claw herb, then I filtered it through a coffee filter and made dilutions to the 3C potency (which you already know how to do - just like with your `tick soup' remedy). I used that for at least a month before I got around to ordering from London, and it worked better than the commercial stuff I'm using now!!!
(Dmbfan, sorry I've deviated from your Cat's Claw topic.)
