Hi,

I just started with mepron (+zith) today. I don't have a positive babs test, but I have the symptoms..

I told my doc that if I herx, it's a sign that I'm infected with babesia. I just got a short treatment now, but he'll expand it if I herx...

I have taken my two first doses now (I'm on 2 tsp BID), and I feel nothing.

When treating with mepron:
- How long did it take before you started to herx?
- Did you herx at all?

thanks!

It was fairly quick for me, and intense by day 4, I think. Around 30 days was intense also.

Everyone is different - so watch for any changes and keep a record of them.

I hope this works well for you, and that you feel better soon.

Hi Peter

I didn't herx until month 4, two weeks ago. I've been wiped out since. My dose is one teaspoon twice a day. Yours sounds like a lot of mepron. My liver enzymes are just high, so be careful.

I am positive for WA-1.

Be patient...may take awhile.

Peter,

I wondered if mepron was working for me. I never felt like I herxed on 2 tsp of Mepron. I'm also only 5'1" and 92 lbs.

Then my LLMD said to try 3 tsp for a couple days, and if no cold sweats or fatigue, try 4--NOTHING but cold sweats for one night. Then it was back to "normal" again.

Now I'm taking 3 tsps a day and waiting to see what happens.

I heard that some people don't herx--it doesn't mean die-off isn't happening.

I've done body-building, ate strictly, and have been into detoxing--so that may have something to do with reaction (or lack thereof) to mepron.

I also have minimized my stress and get 10 hrs of sleep a night. This may have something to do with it??

peter-

i am in the same boat as you.

its been a little less than a week on mepron and i dont feel anything yet (or so i think..)

i havent been able to add in the zith yet because i am still waiting for the ins to approve.

i also have the clinical diagnosis.

it is frustrating, i know, waiting and wondering what and if your body is going to respond

i havent treated bartonella yet either, so thats in the back of my mind as well

hang in there, maybe not herxing is just as well.

i dont feel great, but i have felt MUCH worse.

Has anyone had symptoms,

taken mepron (or other anti-babesia meds),

and not had a reaction, i.e. just improved?

These reactions are as scarey as reading reports of flagyl. However, I was so sick when I took flagyl, I was already flat out, so no difference, but eventual improvement was the result.

I was on 2 spoonfuls a day.

First week of Mepron=nothing.

LLMD said to add artemisinin after 10 days at 600mg a day.

Within a day I thought my head would explode from pain.

I was pretty convinced I was going to die. Oddly I wasn't worried much about that, except that my daughter might find me.

It eased up after about a week.

After that, tiredness, heart palpitations, and headaches -- but none to match the initial one. I am positive for babesia WA-1.

I had a positive test for Babs and many symptoms.

I took a spoonful in the morning and another in the evening along with Ketek for 7 months.

No herx but I got better and better.

I now have test negative for Babs and those specific symptoms are gone.

I started Mepron (2 tsp. twice daily), doxy (200 mg. twice daily), Biaxin (500 mg. twice daily), and had already been on Artemisia back in January. I immediately went from 15% to 25%.

21-24 days later, huge herx. The first herx I was so weak I needed help walking ... once I even took a nap on the bathroom floor so I didn't have to walk back to the bed.

I herx every 21-24 days, but they aren't that bad anymore (still pretty bad though). I'm still on the Mepron/Biaxin/artemisia, but the other meds are different now.

My babs symptoms have clearly improved in this time. I tested negative, but was clinically diagnosed because of drenching night sweats, air hunger and heart palpitations.

For those of you with palps-do you have them all the time, or mainly at night? Mine seem to come in the early morning hours.

Aloha,

SHONEY- my heart PALPS are in the early morning hours

too!!! I normaly get up and pee...and my heart

is going crazy, feels like it's jumping for the

moon...then get up at 6am to take meds and by

9am, when I take my Mepron, I've moved around &

they seem to get better as I start my day..ok

through rest of day unless sudden

strike of anxiety/nervousness.....

6 days ago I added Mepron (1 teasp in

morning and one in evening)... to my 900mg of

Omnicef & 500mg of Zithro and 1,000 mg of pulsed

Art ...and Reversitrol & Andrographis & REd

Root....(I started these 2 ago months, slowly adding one in at a time..)

but with the MEPRON...the next day I

noticed I was sweaty sweaty sweaty...my arm pits

were dripping like waterfalls (more than

usual), over the next few days, I was feverish

(from my chest to head), got hot flashes &

began to sweat, I was bloated and gasy, but my

joint & achyness got better , more frequent

shoulder spasms, intense dreams, and I got more

DEPRESSED...rage feeling, felt like I was going

to explode, wanted to smash dishes on the

kitchen floor, I 'd cry at anything, distant

from family & boyfriend, and sounds are piercing

(the crickets at night feel like torture!!)

My MENTAL/EMOTIONAL symptoms really

PEAKED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But-------- todays' day 7 and I feel lighter and

better...I'm not a GLOOM-Y deppresed person

today--smile-- such a relief....for the past

week my body's not been achy or any bad joint pains.....

I don't know , it sound kind of sudden to react but I sure felt it...

A factor too is that when I started Mepron I was

about 1 week away from getting my period, and

symptoms normally flare up around that

time...but this felt worse and the fever &

waterfall pits were noticably worse...

but I'm just starting , I'll keep you all updated...

smiles,
Fawne

My heart palpitations would happen at any time ... caffeine and wine would aggravate them back before diagnosis. Then it got to the point where I could have them at any time of day.

Thankfully, I seldom have that problem any more and if I do, it's nothing like it used to be.

I was on mepron/zith for 3 weeks and I herxed pretty hard on day 5, it slowed down a little, then back up until I was done.

My main symptoms were massive sweating, joint pain, fatigue, and some other stuff that I can't think of now - oh, yeah - brain fog! [lol]

I also had a strange smell that exuded from my body. It wasn't body odor, it was just a chemical kind of smell.

I'm now on day 6 of biaxin and am waiting patiently for a herx (that may or may not happen, of course).

Good luck.

Oh yeah, the STINK!! I did a search on mepron when my daughter started it, and Groovy2 said he smelled like (I think) "two homeless people and one damp dog".

An update. My daughter had to go off at 4-5 months because the pain in her spine was too bad, and she was too nauseated and depressed.
