Hi,
I am on 1 gr Rocephine IV a day, I know usually the dosage is 2 gr, I am scared to ask this question, but does it make sense to have only 1gr, will it kill anything?

thank you

Hey Seewater,

I'm not sure if 1 gm will do anything, but I will let you know that I'm on 2 grams 2x's a day. I don't know if the Dr's do it by weight, but I have a few extra pounds so that could be why....lol I don't know!

hey babe,
are you scared to question your doctor?
I just wanted to say, DONT EVER be afraid to state something like that to your doctor!

I know its SO hard to do that, but it is so important to your health to question things that you think are valid to question! I have been to 20 doctors trying to figure out what was wrong with me, and now after all that and a final diagnosis of lyme, i have worked up the courage to question them. You should ask your doctor about this.

Also, I am a 105 pound girl who is 5'6". I am thin thin thin, and I am on rocephin 2mg 2 times a day. I do fine, but all people are different.

The first 2 weeks of my treatment I was on 2mg Rocephin, 1 time a day. So you could say I eased into it?

Each person is different, but this is something worth talking to your doctor about. The standard treatment from my doctor in FL is 2mg, 2x a day. and I hear most people are on atleast a minimum of 2 mg.

hope this helps and hope you are feeling well. [Smile]

yeah, the norm is either 2 grams/day or 4 grams/day

sometimes people pulse the abx, on a 4 day on, 3 day off type regimen

4 gr per day seems huge, how do you not develop gallbladder stones?

I was on 2gms twice per day so 4 grms per day four days per week Mon-thurs. You MUST take Actigal 2 pills 3 times per day to stop billary sludging - I was on 4 gms for nearly 5 months.

Just like Rianna said, but I'm on Urso 250 mg 2x's a day to prevent gall stones etc.

As far as the cost goes, I cannot tell ya my insurance pays for it. I'm sure someone here would know, gl!

Actigall was not given to me on the basis that such drugs "don't work", obviously it must work if you are on 4 gr a day with no stones. My dr knows little about the disease, it's like this in Europe and we have to do the best we can with what we have, unfortunatly. I have a short course of Rocephine, ending soon, after that I am left to my own divices. I was hoping to give it a bit of a bashing with the Rocephine.

Thank you for your answers

1 gram is usually the test dose to make sur eyou dont have an allergy to it. The usual starting dose is 2 grams/day and it is usually increased to 4 grams/day plus a macrolide such as Biaxin, plus flagyl.

Your dose is tiny.
You can use Claforan instead if you have GB issues.

Also,
Actigall is also used to prevent GB problems. If you pulse 4g/day its easier on the GI system.
