I was wondering if anybody on here has been able to get antibiotics for Lyme or coinfections with a diagnosis of 'acne'? And if not, it's something you might want to consider if you test negative and cannot get antibiotics because of it.

I know I'm considering it. I only test positive for Lyme so far.

I was on long term orals for acne for years in my 20's. I'm not sure how strict they are now though.

As it turns out, all the abx that worked for my acne were the very same abx that treat Lyme or coinfections - erythromycin, trimox, minocycline - these all worked for me.

In fact, one would work for like a year or two and then they'd have to switch and I'd be okay again for another year or two.

Does anyone know how strict they are treating 'acne' these days?

My last LLMD said he could probably get me certain abx with that dx, but doubtfully with Lyme or coinfections. That's messed up, huh?

I looked into the dosages once and it turns out the daily Doxy dosage for acne is about half of what we need to take for Lyme.

sorry to say but my doc will not prescribe anything except for the medical issue that i am currently going into his office on, say a cold or something like my recent bout with dermatitis.

i even asked him once for an antibiotic and he said nope, not necessary.

i peronally don't know if any doc around here who would prescribe meds for lyme under another diagnosis.

But I DO have acne. It's not dishonest. He could give me certain meds for my Lyme and certain ones to treat my acne long term.

I also know that my bacterial load back then was low enough that the dosage to control acne was plenty enough to keep my symptoms at bay. I'm also under 100 lbs, so I probably would do fine on the lower 'acne' dose.

My daughter is taking Solodyn, which is a time release minocycline, for acne. Very expensive and a non preferred drug on my insurance plan. We pay $50 co pay, but for now, the drug company has rebates for the entire copay which makes it free.

Pharmacy says they do not fill until the customer is standing there as it is so expensive. They said nearly $1000 for 100 tabs bottle. But we keep up with the rebates and get it free for now. What a way to make a cheap drug into an expensive one. Mino is $10 for 60 w/o insurance.

I was shocked at how many drug companies offer copay rebates or rebates on drugs. Or trial packets free. Look up any name brand you are taking to see if there are any available. I get rebates on the 3 acne drugs my daughter uses. Got a free month of one I use, and a 7 day free supply on another.

Thanks! I'm glad I know now.

My problem still is trying to get a doc to prescribe something for my coinfections. Without a script, I lose.

I'm thinking I have babs - I read it heads straight for your liver where it reproduces. I think this is why I can't seem to handle any of the die-off from the meds I'm on now for Lyme.

I did well on minocycline though. If I can get a script, I think I will try that one first.

sorry, i misunderstood. i thought you meant you were going to say something to your doc about a condition you didn't have and then get meds.

ooopppsss.

No - I just figured if insurance companies were more lenient giving abx for an acne diagnosis than they appear to be for Lyme, and somebody has acne, why not get your antibiotics that way?

I know my acne was treated with erythromycin, tetracycline, minocycline, and trimox - all at different times because one would eventually stop working, and they'd have to change abx - just like with Lyme.

In fact, this is how antidepressants were for me, too - eventually they'd have to switch because it would stop working.

That makes me think that everyone currently on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds really is suffering from undiagnosed Lyme/coinfections.

Where did you find Mino for $10??

I pay around $90 for 60 pills (100mg) I don't have prescription coverage, so if you can tell me where you got that price I would appreicate it!

I've looked everywhere to find cheaper prices, even Canada.
