alright, now that you have stopped laughing, just listen a minute will ya?

i have gained a ton of weight, well, ok, about 75 pounds. i use to be 128 and now am 200.

when i lay down at night i can't breathe and wake up choking and suffocating.

my husband says it's because my boobs are too big and when i lay down, they press on my neck cutting off my air supply.

i used to be a nice size 34B but am now an awful 44DDD. i hate this weight gain and am trying desperately to loose weight.

i know it sounds bizarre but i think it's air hunger from lyme, but doctor hubbie thinks otherwise.

so quit laughing and help out here gals... and you guys just provide scientific comments only...

this is sooooooooo embarassing......

Hello,

I use to be a bust size about the same as you, I was 36B, now I am a 38DDD too. So, I know what it is like, I gained 60lbs, and try to loose it but it is tough. I use to run 5 days a week and work out, was slim and fit up until 3 years ago.

The weight gain happened gradually the past 3 years.

I have had air hunger and it was lyme. I may get it again, I had it really badly, I dont think I would be writing this had I not found the antibiotics when I did.

The air hunger started off and on, then became ON, and I found out I had lyme.

What helped.

Biaxin and flagyl - took it away in 1 week, it was excellent. I had undiagnosed lyme 15 years about this time here.

Then, had it come again, OFF antibiotics, then was put on
Azithromycin and flagyl, and then relapsed on this, and was put on Doxycycline.

I did have some babesia cause this sometimes so was put back on clindamycin and quinine.

Always have an inhaler like Ventolin with you, just incase, it only helps me a tiny bit, but just a bit works. I never had an inhaler when I had the air hunger ON all the time, and I wished I had, I then went on antibiotics.

I dont think your breasts are doing this, and your Husband should be a little more easy on you.
MAYBE it may be your weight, I dont know.
I had candida cause really bad breathing once, but I now manage my candida, at that time
I was on a terrible probiotic and was not
on nystatin.

randi ~ have you been checked for sleep apnea. Many get it after weigh gain.

I have airhunger but my boobs seem not to be the cause.

I hope it gets better, consider a sleep study if you ahven;t ahd one, k?

Waking up choking is a sign of sleep apnea. I have gained a ton of weight too and the first sign of sleep apnea for me was waking up choking. It is a classic sign of sleep apnea. I don't snore or fall asleep during the day or have other signs except I had more irritability before it was treated.

My sleep doctor told me that the chances of having a stroke are 400% higher with untreated sleep apnea.

Please consider getting a sleep study. Sleep apnea is not uncommon in lyme patients and it is a serious, treatable problem.

Typical men! Thinking about boobs all the time ... [Wink]

I also have airhunger sometimes especially when I lay down on my back. It helps me a bit to put my arms up over my head - then breathing is easier.

I just found out that in my case it is due to hyperventilation (I'm not awaking from airhunger). The question is why am I hyperventilating only sometimes? I think it is caused by Lyme that interferes with my diaphragm sometimes.

The only thing that I'm absolutely and 100% sure about is: it cannot be caused by my boobs as I practically don't have any. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Take care,

Gabrielle

Okay....maybe a little different perspective.

Prior to getting ill, I was a nice size C cup.

Now, after losing over 20lbs (I think babesia related and low carb, low sugar),

I am down to a small B.

I still have air hunger....but not at night.

Sleep apnea is a concern....

Do you sleep on your back?

Have you tried elevating your head to see if you breathe better?

Have you treated babs?

It may be a combination of the two...

Weight gain and babesia.

Call your LLMD and see what he/she says.

My husband calls me the "incredibly shrinking woman".

I don't think he's happy about it either.

I am going after babs again, maybe as soon as next week.

Hope you get some relief and answers soon.

BTW, I never had breathing issues, day or night, when I was pregnant or breast feeding.

I wasn't quite a D size, but very close.

Hugs,

Geneal

I vote sleep apnea. With the weight gain, there is more strain on major organs including heart and lungs. Also more adapose tissue to get in the way.

Putting blocks under the feet of the head of the bed may help. But sleep apnea can be very dangerous if untreated.

It's probably more likely to be abdominal fat pushing on the diaphragm causing sleep apnea. Also a large neck can cause this. The large breasts don't help but the rib cage prevents the breast tissue from just sagging in to the lungs.

Whereas the abdominal fat tissue pushes directly on the diaphragm which is not proteced by bone.

You sound just like me! My problem is related to a growth in thyroid. This can cause choking and coughing as well.

I'm sure it's infection related (possibly coinfection related), but I certainly would pay attention to diet and consider food allergies. I get extreme air hunger, anxiety, panic attacks, palpitations if I eat a suspect food. Went to the ER like 2 or 3 times last summer for it.

Though I think I have babs and have yet to be treated for it, by avoiding pretty much ALL of the most common food allergens - wheat, corn, soy, milk, eggs, fish - I am not nearly as air-starved as I was.

I would try eating whole, unprocessed foods to figure out which one is triggering the air hunger. The inhalers did absolutely nothing for me.
