I've been having severe GI distress. Gas, bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, etc... Nothing entirely new, but I'm feeling worse than ever and it has NEVER been this persistant. Also, increased back/neck pain, breathing issues, and dry throat/mouth. No oral thrush.

How do I know when I'm experiencing lyme symptoms verses possible yeast and/or leaky gut?

I got a prescription from my dentist (bless her because she's the ONLY doctor who would give it to me) for diflucan. 100mg a day for two weeks.

Should I stop taking my antibiotics for these two weeks, just do diflucan and see if my symptoms improve? Or should I do the diflucan in addition to my antibiotics?

I'm only taking 200mg of doxy a day, so I don't think stopping it for a couple of weeks will make much difference. I'm without an LLMD (in the process of changing) and my PCP is good for nothing. So I have no one to advise me but you guys and you've helped me so much! Thanks!

Protonix cleared up all of my digestive issues. Have you considered something like that?

Good luck!

Are you taking pro-biotics? My LLMD recommended them.

Go overboard on your probiotics, especially acidophilus! Also Glutamine and Aloe Vera are good or healing and soothing the gut and degestive system... I would do the 2 weeks of diflucan and maybe back off the ABX to see if that is causing the problem... are you staying sugar free besides fruits?

we also tend to get food allergies because of leaky gut caused by yeast, ABX, lyme, ect....

Google leaky gut and do alot of researching...

Some of your symptoms could be from lyme, for instance I have struggled with chronic nausea since the day I got sick with lyme disease.

Yes, yes, and yes!

I'm taking Protonix 40mg twice a day. I'm also taking Zantac 300mg once daily at bedtime.

I'm taking probiotics. My GI doctor suggested FloraQ as it has many different types of good bacteria.

I have thought about leaky gut. I've done the "emlimination diets" to see what foods make me ill, but with no successful results. Everything seems to make me sick or become severely congested.

I'm taking a break from antibiotics and just going to do diflucan for two weeks.

At this point, I have nothing to lose.

bizzle,

i suggest you have food allergy testing done? they found i've allergic to:

gluten ... wheat and rye plus

casen .... all cow's milk, cheeses, egg whites, and garlic..

they tested me for 90+ things. made sense; my gut had been sick for 30+ years! [cussing]

When I am on doxy, I get tremendously gassy and bloated and constipated (you didn't mention what abx you're on, did you?) which can cause low abdomen pains, not necessarily classic "cramps".

Nystatin, on the other hand, causes me to have loose stools.

Seems like it's either one or the other!! Anyway, my point is, that it might be the meds causing your GI trouble. If so, it's the lesser of two evils, isn't it? No meds, regular bowels, but lyme symptoms....or meds, put up with the bowel problems, and lessen lyme symptoms.

Not much help, is it? If I were you (and I'm not a doctor either) I'd stay on the abx and take the diflucan - but be sure to take them at least 2 hours apart (very important).

Also, the dry throat/mouth thing could very well be yeast - I have chronic problems with that, but I don't ever get sores or anything in my mouth. Just feels dry and my tongue feels like I recently scalded it with hot coffee or something. But using oral nystatin suspension helps me a lot more than diflucan (you could also try dissolving a nystatin tablet in a couple ounces of hot water, let it cool, then swish it around in your mouth for a couple of minutes. Doesn't taste great, but helps if it is yeast).
