I'm starting babs treatment in 4 hours, but who's counting. I've always heard that you will herx (HARD) on babs treatment.

It seems like the only time I really noticed a bad herx is during babs treatment. When I was only teating lyme I did not herx, at least not

real bad. I herxed on the third day for a few days then got better for a week then herxed for

two weeks. Still treating but it's been up and down. I get night sweats, air hunger, chest

pressure, fast heart beats, and bad neuro symptoms (paranoid, anxiety, and irritated).

I herxed really bad on babs meds. I think it was one of the worst herx reactions I ever had in all my years taking meds.

Does one ALWAYS herx when treating babs?

Also,how hazardous is the herx. compared to the
pathology of the untreated disease?
(not that I have ANY reservations about treating!)

Shoney,
I believe you do but for some reason it's not called a herx. Folks getting all technical I think.

I had a significant increase of Babs sx after starting treatment and it kept cycling. In the beginning it was cycling every 12 days or so.

I was first hit around day 4-5 and again at the month mark. (Others told me to expect that and, yup, they were right!)

I've asked this before on various forums and approx 30% reply that they've got a herx from mepron+zith.

I've used mepron+zith for over a week now, and have only got a small reaction.

But I got this reaction from using minocycline:

* extreme night sweat
* total loss of appetite
* feeling very dizzy
* very strong chills

appetite and dizziness are listed as side effects of mino, but the rest ain't on the list..

Quite strange reaction I thought. Mino is not supposed to be a babs drug, but judging from the symtoms it looks like a babs herx.. don't it?

Hi All

Babs herxes are 10 or more times worse than
herxes from Lyme --

They last longer and are Way more painful --

Not everybody herxes - but most do --

Just get ready for them and drink lots of tea or water --Jay--

Thank you so much for starting this topic as it is exactly what I need to know at the moment. My son started on atovaquone (mepron) 10 days ago and has been really bad for the last week.

So maybe this is a babs herx - and it reassures me that we are treating him with the right medicine.

However, he did have a very similar herx 6 months ago, about a month after he had started flagyl and a week after he started plaquenil.

Do flagyl and or plaquenil have some activity against babs as well? Flagyl is used to treat giardia which is a protoplasm and plaquenil is an old malaria treatment. Can anyone enlighten me?
