I went to the best doc in the world today. I have always thought he was the best but he is a surgeon and I knew he would not necessarily treat lyme.
But I went to him for my stomach problems today. He really put me at ease and told me he would put the port in my chest (he called it something else). He said I need the IV therapy and that I would notice a difference in a couple of months.
He gave me flagyl to take for about 7 days a month to keep my tummy in good shape while on the IV. He gave me heart burn medicine. I think mostly discussing it with someone I trust my life to and who I respect and admire made such a difference. He has know several people with lyme. One was a doctor as well. I think it was nice to hear a "normal" doc to say its not crazy to have lyme in my state.
So tell me. What will be my limitations. I dont get to do much now. Will Ihave to stay out of the sun etc....How do you shower etc. Does it hurt?

Congratulations, that is good news that you will get good treatment soon!
I do not think that Rocephin makes you sun sensitive. Otherwise, I cannot give you too much info; I was only on rocephin for a few days and then had an allergic reaction.
But others here have been on it for months and said it made all the difference in regaining their health. Hope it works for you!

I LOVE ROCEPHIN!*)!*)!!!!
It saved my life!!! I had NO GI distress & no side effects from Rocephin. It was teh easiest abx I have ever taken!! No sun sensitivity, no nothing!!! It didn't hurt me and I bathed very carefully but with a port some kinds of them you can shower just normal- depends on the kind- some kinds you can swim with!!! Best wishes, Sarah

That is so aweome to hear!!! Just to let you know I have the port and I'm glad I went with it (despite minor complications). I have a BARD portacath, it sits under the skin so when it's not accessed, I can shower, swim, or do whatever I want!
It's confusing at first, I totally understand!!! I'm on Rocephin 2 mgs 2x'd a day and Flagyl 500 mgs 3x's a day. Amazingly, I've been able to tolerate them both really well. Infact, I think I need to change meds (going to my dr to discuss).
I've attatched a whole thread with pics so you can easily see how the port works!
Please let me know if you have any other questions about the port!
