Tested positive for Babs in 2005 and just getting treated for it now.

Well, I'm up to 1/2 the prescribed dose of Malerone with my Amoxy and oi! oi! oi! [Eek!]

Every joint & the tendons between my ribs are in pain! Had one air hunger incident so far.

I guess I thought I'd just sweat, but that isn't even happening. Not that I'm complaining about that...

So much muscle and joint pain! I try to keep moving, because lying down makes me notice the pain all the more. Want to walk more but my ankles and feet are really painful.

Do non-Lymies react badly to these medications too? Could it be yeast? Could it be abx overload? Could it be just the darn Babesia? [dizzy]

Anyone else not sweat and get body pain?

Curiouser and curiouser,

wiserforit

Hi Wiser,

Yes, I got increased joint and muscle pain after starting malarone.

As you know, I am on the amoxy too -- the same regimen!

After one week on malarone 250/100/day, I could not move my neck in one direction. (Then again, I got ambitious and had added zithromax that first week too -- had to stop it, the herx was too intense).

For me, it seemed that treating babs with malarone resulted in an intensification of all my lyme symptoms. More joint pain, muscle pain, and some difficulty sleeping those first few weeks.

I had a post on that back in March (help, is this a herx or relapse?!). Someone responded that borrelia can live inside the babesia protozoa....I do not know if that is true, but if it is, it would explain some of the intensity of the herx and side-effects!!

Hang in there -- it definitely gets easier to take the malarone over time. At least for me it did. And it was worth it. Make sure you are drinking alot of lemon water, and taking it easy as much as possible!

I had to stop increasing the amoxy at the same time I was starting the malarone; I went back to ramping up on the amoxy once I had gotten adjusted to taking the malarone. Lymetoo is right -- slow and easy!

I had more chills at first then night sweats -- though I did have a few night sweats and low grade fevers too esp that first month.

If you think malerone or mepron are bad for causing a muscle herx try some artemesinin after you get over this one.

looks like you're definitely doing some good...don't overdo like I did...back off and ramp up slowly. Babs meds had me on crutches for awhile.

"Air hunger" is the feeling of not being able to get a full breath. As a result, you find yourself consciously taking deep breaths to try and get more air. This is a babesia symptom -- pulmonologists will typically not find anything wrong. It goes away with babesia treatment.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

Vermonter -- Wow! I was floored by the possibility that "borrelia can live inside the babesia protozoa"... It would make sense in a warped borrelia kind of way.

Charlie -- thanks for the go slow warning. On half the prescribed amount, taking a deep breath hurts my ribs and shoulder blades. This is intense!

lanky & Michelle -- air hunger isn't bad or too persistent right now. In the beginning before treatment, it was constant. That isn't to say it won't rear its ugly head as I ramp up the Malerone....

Thanks all for the acknowledgement. [group hug]
