Jay, I think its wonderful you feel like even thinking of ripping up carpet. I wish I could even think about doing a project.
My advice....Sleep on the purple floor. I dont mean literally....Sleep before you pain your floor purple; lol Posts: 347 | From WV | Registered: Jan 2007

if you think you have mold and the mold is what is giving you the night sweats...
Then by all means lose the carpet...clean the floor...and make sure you check the paint and
make sure there are no contaminants in the paint that can evaporate into your lungs or skin.
When the night sweats return....after all this work...then perhaps you'll be convinced it is'nt the mold or suspicion of mold.
But hey...who knows...your situation may be different...good luck...

I say go for it Jay..great idea!
Other than mold Carpet, can harbor, fleas, mites all kinds of fellows
What do you have under the carpet, is it wood or concrete? If it's wood you might want to hit it with some anti-mold product & ley dry it dry out a few days before you paint
when you paint make sure to ventalate well
love the color purple
Watch out for any raiming carpet tacks left after you motor it on out of there. Owuie
The motorcycle is a cool idea
love to see a clip of that!
good luck dana

This weekend should be good for you, the rain is letting up a bit....I think I actually saw the sun today...hadn't seen that in a while.
Let us know if ripping the carpet out helps. I might consider doing it myself.
I know we moved a year ago from an old victorian house, one that I wanted for years.
But everytime it rained I swear it smelled like mold and then I felt horrible for weeks.
After moving I improved a bit, but lately with it raining 45 days of the last 60, I just feel crappy no matter what. Mold is everywhere!

Can you use a mask and AC while you do this? Seems like this job could stir up the beast.

Have you gone on Questran (Cholestyramine)? What about Sporonex? Any antimold medications? If you are sensitive to molds, you probably have a mold infection. I am sensitive to molds, and I have to take Sporonex to eradicate my infection. I'm currently living in a moldy climate, but we're moving to Wyoming in a month. My Dr, Dr. C in Missouri, thinks once I live in Wyoming I will be able to "fire" him.
Taking Sporonex and Questran has helped me more than any other Lyme treatment.
I hope this anti mold stuff will help you as much as it has helped me!

I don't think it's just the mold. Read 'Cross Currents' and google 'cell phones - health effects'. Also, google 'The Biggest Biological Experiment Ever'.
I get the same way - I feel worse in damp or humid weather - never fail. Doesn't really matter if it's 95 and humid or 25 and there's a heavy frost.
The author of 'Cross Currents' has been studying the health effects of cordless phones and other manmade sources of electromagnetic pollution.
He thinks people with arthritis, for instance, feel worse during damp or humid weather because water conducts, so the more moisture there is in the air, the more we are influenced by these manmade frequencies.
Electromagnetic fields also increase histamine. So if you take the mold together with increased moisture in the atmosphere - basically, we are being microwaved by cell phones, wireless, and other manmade EMFs.
These EMFs are the real problem - not mold - not even Lyme.

I sure hope you "own" your house vs rent one from somebody else,,,on painting the floors purple.
IF you own your home you may want to consider resale. At least have a PLAN in place for returning it to normal tradition condition for the next person. OR be prepared to accept 1/2 of going values.(After a few YEARS on the market)
HOW about purple drapperies or wall hangings,,,easy to take with you,,,and JUST as purple.
Then go to Menards,Home Depot or any other home improvement store and buy allergy free(relatively) hardwood floor strips that are super easy to install yourself.
IF "MY" son can put them down,,,anybody can!!! He is about as handy as a double ended hammer!!
End result is beautiful floor,,,and easy maintance floor that doesnt harbor MOLD and other nasty stuff!!
Fun to be groovy,,,worse to be --just don--

I've been reading about mold remediation and one must be very careful when trying to remove moldy materials or you can spread the spores all over the house and make yourself sicker. This is because mold spores are airborn.
This is just a partial list of things that you need to do - please research before you proceed with any other mold remediation. Many people hire professionals but from what I've heard, even the professionals sometimes don't know what they are doing.
Wear a special mask (N 95) that filters fine particles when removing anything moldy. This keeps you from breathing in the mold spores.
Wear protective clothing that you can then remove and throw away.
Protect the moldy materials from the rest of the house so that when the spores are disturbed, they don't go into the air ducts or into other rooms and cause mold growth in moist areas. That means covering air ducts, enclosing the material in something protective before moving it through other rooms etc..
I am not a mold expert or a doctor - this is based on my research. Given your symptoms after removing your carpet, it seems that mold is part of the problem.
At this point, you may want to consider taking some biotoxin binders like chlorella or pectin so that you can get those toxins out of your system and feel better. I take cholestyramine but that is prescription.
GIGI does mention Chitosan which Dr. S. (Mold Warriors) reportedly does not feel is effective for binding biotoxins. I don't know who is right about that.
Hope you feel better soon.
Also, if the carpet is moldy, probably best to throw it out rather than sell it to someone else because it could make others sick too.

Hi Terry
Thanks for the info about the masks-- sure wished I had used a Better mask --
I started wearing a mask all day and night - I thought it would be hard to sleep with but it was easy -
I did research more online --
Boy after reading the EPA mold site -- it was Very Clear they dont want Anyone to Worry about Mold --
Sure can tell who the EPA are Taking Care Of- -- Insurance Companies --
The EPA mold web site is so bad its almost laffible --
The EPA sure has changed for the Worst over the Last 6 years-
I looked at some university sites also Night and Day difference- between them and the EPA --
On the EPA site they talk about mold like it is something you put on your Kids breakfast --
I was kidding about selling the carpet-- No way would I do that to somebody -
I have a story about the carpet tho-
when I worked for Whole Foods one of my co workers told me that-
If I ever wanted to sell the carpet -- She wants to BUY it --
The carpet was this crazy bright orange color -and WAS in good shape at the time
I told her no - dont want to sell it-
About 2 weeks later she told me that she had Received $14 million from her father that she had never met --
She had the money when she offered to buy my bright orange carpet --
The carpet could have been the ticket for my trip to --- Nirvana --Jay--
Ps (My house Used to be bright Florescent Pink on the out side)- OuCH
