Hi everyone,
My son was bitten by a tick when he was 9 months old.

I pulled the tick off of him and sure enough, a week and a half later there was the bulls eye rash.

I took him immediately to our regular pediatrician who put him on Amoxicillian for 3 weeks.

My pedi said he would be fine after the treatment, and that I have nothing to worry about but the thought of my son getting worse still sits in the back of my mind.

Before being bitten by the tick he was fine.

Now, he seems to break out a bit on his face, and is a picky eater (never was before) and is definitely more fussy.

It's so hard for me to tell if this is just "normal" changes that babies go through, or if it's somehow all related to the Lyme.

So my question after all of this is, what is your opinion on my pedi's diagnosis that he'll be fine after 3 weeks on Amoxicillian - sound accurate to you?

It's been about 2 - 2 1/2 months since he finished the medicine but I'm just a nerve wreck over this.

Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks everyone!

Wow, I don't know what to tell you. Hopefully, others will be along soon.

It SOUNDS like the 3 wks of amoxy would be enough for an infant...but who knows??

If it were an adult, I would say go with a minimum of two months on abx.

You really need to get him checked for babesia, which can also be transmitted by ticks. Babesia can cause a lack of appetite.

The VERY BEST Lyme pediatrician is in CT. If you need his contact info, let me know.

Well this is kinda hard... my chronic lyme disease has caused me to lose all appetite and now I have chronic nausea...

But i remember as a kid I was a really picky eater and would fuss alot about my food as well... I think every kid goes through that stage where "you can't leave the table until you have eaten your vegetables"

I'm sorry, I don't have any advice. I am fairly new to this as well. I just want to tell you that I feel for you and your baby.

I believe I have been infected for 20 years...just found out a couple months ago....and I have two toddlers. I know the fear of your child being sick, and with something so serious , that few even believe in...

I am a very overprotective mother...and here, I may be the one who has doomed them to a life of hell that I have suffered through....

I just started my own treatment, and going to watch my kids and chart things that might strike me as strange with them. Hopefully it will lay dormant in them, if they have it.

it's so hard to say with a little one... the meds may be stronger for thier little systems, I dont know what I would say.... I guess if I were you, I'd seek out a lyme doc to put my mind at ease.

good luck to you.

My 14 month old got sick and needed 3 years of abx!!! Now she is 10 and has been in full remission for over 5 years!!!

It sounds like it could be the Lyme. Or not. I would go with your instincts but be careful- they are quick to call chronic Lyme kids Moms Munchausens Moms- so be politic as need be-
and be quiet about it if you get him tx!!!!
Not quiet on here, but out in the world.

I would get him to an LLMD!!!! The LLMD may just say NOPE GO HOME!!! or may have a finding you missed-

But bottom line your son HAD Lyme if he had a bulls-eye- and may still have it if it wasn't eradicated. You should know that ADD and ADHD are Lyme presentations in children as well as the autistic type like my daughter had-
Take care,
Best wishes,
Sarah

Jaime, I'm a mother of a 3 year old. She was bitten when she was 2, 3 times (last year). Two were infected, I believe.

She went on amoxy first time, 2 weeks, but I think that was the 'not contaminated' bite. So nothing changed from before nor after amoxy.

Second and third bite were close. She got symptoms since the second bite (GI symptoms, fussiness, tiredness, bad mood). I put her on amoxy for 3 weeks (I was ready for 6). Then at the end of the 3rd week, I saw no improvements.

As a mother, I know her, and her GI has never been so messed up like that before. She was extremely tired and fussy.

I took her to my LLMD, but he's mostly on alternative treatment (ART, homeopathy etc). He found borrelia, ehrlichia, bartonella, rikketsia and candida (ART) after 3 weeks treatment.

Amoxy is a bad abx to get borrelia. It doesn't cross well the blood brain barrier. It gets NONE of the coinfections. I'm pretty sure that if she stayed 6 weeks or even 3 months, amoxy wouldn't have done the job.

So we shifted to herbs only, Buhner's whole core protocol to her (adapted to her weight) plus parallel herbs for coinfections, then the cleansing herbs. It took her still about 3 months more to get well (or 4, I can't remember now). Candida and borrelia were the last to go.

Now she's fine, since about October 06, no more on lyme treatment, she's very healthy, stopped being so tired and GI is working well ever since.

Search my posts of that time for more info, as I already forgot details of her protocol.
