I had a Lyme's test done last week by the local hospital & it came back Positive. My GP also sent a sample to Mayo where they did the Western Blot test & that came up with a 2, which I gather is borderline? This was after 2 rashes - one about a month or more ago that was red blotchy & itchy with what looked like a bite in the middle, but no bullseye. The second one was on my boob about 2 seeks ago, also showed a bite & rred & itchy but no bullesye. My GP wants to wait another 4 weeks & retest.

I am also currently fighting Cdiff (clostridium difficile) which is a horrendous disease of the large intestine, brought about by in my case by antibiotics for a cat bite after I had somehow managed to get the Cdiff spores in me. Even tho I am doing well now after 8 months, I have been told to stay away from antibiotics unless absolutely necessary because an antibiotic & especially the wrong antibiotic in temrs of Cdiff could relapse me.

So I am wondering about those tests & whether I SHOULD wait. Doxycycline is considered a middle of the road offender for Cdiff but I understand that one has to take large doses in order to figtht the other tick diseases that might come along with Lymes's.

Need some input! Help!

I would get to an LLMD as soon as possible. You need a Lyme specialist. They are well-versed in C. Diff., too, because they use so many abx long term.

Lyme is serious and really needs someone who knows how to treat it.

Post on the seeking doctors section to find an LLMD near you.

The longer you wait, the more of a chance of becoming a chronic Lymie like most of us here.

Thank you to BettyG.

And to the others too. But how do I find a Lyme's specialist?

Florastor is the best probiotic to take to keep c-diff away. You can google that name and find it to purchase.

You may need to get on the wait lists for llmds but do so for these doctors will be able to best decide a course of treatment for you.

WOW!

That's amazing!

You actually got a hospital test for lyme's back positive!

Now that never happens...and one from Mayo as well....

That never happens either cuz they don't think it exists!

Congradulations....Gee...perhaps mainstream medicine is waking up!

YA THINK?

Hmmmmm....

Good advice above....so what's your next move Pamn?

I had C. diff for 11 months...finally got rid of it last Thanksgiving.

I'm now on 100 mg minocycline, twice a day, 6 days a week (allowing for a Sabbath rest for my GI tract [Wink] ).

I'm tolerating it fine.

I do take probiotics and eat yogurt daily.

I NEVER want C. diff back again.

Good luck....Timaca

Pam,
I sent you ALL the info you could possibly need. I sent you support groups in your area, patient contacts, and all the Lyme and c.diff info.

Go to a LLMD, and ASAP, waiting is dangerous and foolish. You can take Lyme meds and vancomycin at the same time as I said, plus the probiotics, VSL# 3, Florastor, and Theralac. All of these things will help while you treat Lyme and prevent c.diff at the same time. You cannot continue to wait and see when dealing with Lyme, you will only get sicker. Doxycycline must be 400 mg per day, not 200. Some take 600-800, but you should be fine with 400 mg/day, but you do need to get tested for co-infections as well, as they require different treatments.

Check out all the links and info I emailed you, and contact the support group leaders, make an appointment with that LLMD.

Good luck! I am available if you have any questions! [group hug]
