It definitely helps me. I take it only 1-2x per week at 1/2 tablet, which seems to be enough. This is probably individual and you will have to find what works for you. Also, in the beginning and for quite awhile, I felt a bit more foggy the next day. So I used to take it on my days off of work (when I was working). Eventually my body got acclimated to it.
There is a timed-release kind, which I have heard good things about, too, but have not yet tried it myself.

I bought, opened and dosed melatonin before I read all the warning label. Not a smart thing to do. It's not suppose to be used by people with thyroid disease.
I've been hypo-thyroid for years. The melatonin was like speed to me. My mind was going wild all night long. Lesson learned. Read all labels, including supps & herbs.

I use it in a comination of other sleep stuff. I think it helps.
It is made less useful with exspoure to light. So if you take it make sure to get into bed right away & not let room, TV, computer light hit your eyes.
hope this helps & you can get some zzzzzzzzzz's Dana
make sure to talk over everything first with your LLMD...none of the above is medical advise...just my 2 cents

How interesting about the exposure to light. My daughter tends to take it and then watch tv until she gets tired.
melatonin didn't work years ago, but with other medications, and a better brand, she now prefers it to Rozerem (a pharmaceutical grade malatonin)

Electro smog reduces melatonin production in the Pineal gland. Why is this bad?
1. Melatonin induces sleep. We only heal and detoxify in deep non-rem sleep. Without melatonin, no regeneration and no detoxification
2. Melatonin is the most effective and potent neuroprotective chemical in the CNS and prevents damage from mercury, lead, aluminum, chemicals, mycotoxins, viruses, cigarette smoke, bacterial and parasitic endo- and exotoxins (Lyme, clostridia, ascaris), outgasing of carpets and new car plastics, etc.
(Sener, G. etal" Melatonin protects against mercury induced oxidative tissue damage". Basic and Clnical Pharmacology & Toxicology Vol 93, Dec 2003, pp 290-296)
(Dr. K's comments: If you have a hangover following taking melatonin, it's displaced mercury.)
Google melatonin and mercury.
It's important to clear out the bedroom of electrosmog.
Melatonin is used in certain applications for detoxing of mercury. I am not detailing this application here, because it should be done under a physician's guidance.
Take care.

For a short while my son was having problems getting to sleep. When this would happen he would take a melatoin pill. Worked great. It was recommeded by his LLMD.

Yes, I take this brand too, but I have to take at least 9 mg per night, and have to also take 5-HTP and something else my LLMD gave me which I'd never heard of before and isn't specifically for sleep but helps detox of the liver.
