I am interested if any LLMDs are using this regime? Cerebral malaria is treated with heparin, so why not treat cerebral babesiosis with it? I have read up on the theory but is anyone using it in practise?

I would have thought that a short course of low dose molecular weight heparin is associated with few risks and is unlikely to interfer with antibiotics.

Can it be used as a adjunct with mepron? Does it cause a herx-like reaction like mepron?

Please share you views.

I'm curious, too. I think I would prefer heparin over the malarone it's taking my insurance so long to okay.

I also notice I have a network of clogged blood vessels over the left side of my chest that I imagine occur elsewhere in my body and that this would likely help.

My daughter is currently on the Mepron/Zith Heparin protocol. She has had to take a break because the heparin dissolves the mucus lining of the stomach. She said her stomach feels like she swallowed razor blades.

Heparin is thought to be an antibiotic, fibrin buster, and keeps the babesia from clinging to the red blood cell.

My daughter has only been on it for six weeks. She herxed big at first. And her blood has gotten easier to get out for tests.

kelmo - Did your daughter's veins collapse during blood draws? Mine did.

My blood also clotted almost instantly in the tube. Even the phlebotomist commented on this before my Lyme dx.

I'm not like that anymore - not like I was anyway.

I think I have babs or malaria though - I could barely tolerate zith, but it was killing something.

They would have to take the blood out of the back of her hand because they couldn't find a vein. Then, they would have to use suction to draw it out.

It comes out much easier now.

Even the blood slide she had done with Fry Lab was a clumpy mess.

She wants to get back on heparin, but needs to heal her gut first.

Wow. I just worry now because I know if my blood was clotting that fast in a tube, I wonder how much of it clotted in my arteries?

Hopefully my malarone will get approved - then I'll worry about heparin. My doc still didn't call the pharmacy, and it's been a week.

Hope she feels better soon though.
