Hey all,
I have been on Tindamax and Bactrim
since July 1st. Monday I had a herx ( felt like

I was going to pass out ) later that night my face started swelling and now have a rash all over

my body. I have had this rash before when taking Amoxy, but never the face swelling. I stopped taking them yesterday.

Do you think it is a sulfa allergy?
Any responses appreciated.

Thanks, Sara

Sara,

Good move in stopping the meds. This sounds like an alergic reaction to one or both of the meds you are presently (not)taking.

I don't know and I'm no expert on herx's but I personally have never had one with that much rash or swelling.

Find out from your pharmacist or doctor what the next step may be for you.

What are you taking the bactrim for? My Dr said that sulfa allergy can happen any time-look for a rash and swelling

Shoney,
Not sure what I'm on Bactrim for. It was just the
next protocol on my list. I'm waiting for my Dr.

to get back. Thanks for all your responses.

Randi,
Thanks, I'm leaning that way too. How long did
it usually last after stopping the meds?

I am deathly allergic to sulfa drugs. I get bodywide red rash and in my lungs too and very high fever and almost die.

Sounds like an allergic reaction not a Herx!!!

You should go to MD because the danger is the lungs- the same thing happening to your skin can happen to your lungs!!!! So get thee to MD!!!

I was hospitalized for a week the one time I took Sulfa- and rash lasted for weeks after!!!!
Faded slowly- was embarassing- (was 19 or so!)
Dark red stain rash for me-

Glad you are being carefuL!!!
Best wishes,
Sarah

Hey Sarah,
I spoke with my LLMD office, they too think it's
an allergic reaction. They said if I was miserable, they could call in prednisone (sp)

I told them I was just uncomfortable. I haven't had any breathing problems. Did you?

i had to keep gasping for breath as i couldn't get enough air but i was, literally, bouncing off the walls. i was so hyper that i thought i was going to collapse. i remember my heart rate was through the roof and my bp was sky high.

i remember a high fever, too, cause they had to put me in an ice bath to get me cooled down. wierd...

they gave me something, sorry, can't remember what, cause it was about 15 years ago.

my file is now tagged big red letters -- allergies -- sulfa...

i do remember the doc saying i'd die if i ever had it again.

i think the blotchiness and redness went away in a couple of days.
