My LLMD has Rx'd a Vit D supplement recently.

Is this common? And is the Rx Vit D any different from an OTC Vit D supplement, or from the Vit D we make when in the sun?

Also, did I read somewhere that there can be a herx from Vit D? Any insight into why that could happen? (Or maybe I dreamed that up, not sure)

Whew, that was a lot of questions [Smile]
Thanks,
Cactus

When my Vitamin D was first tested, and I was found low, my doctor had me take a prescription 50,000 iu like once per week or something for a time (can't remember how long).

Then, I switched to 2000iu per day (which is a regular supplement from over the counter).

Thanks, Robin. That's what my LLMD gave me - 50,000 iu once a week.

Did you notice any changes when you began taking it?

I don't know about herxing from the tanning, but I found a thread on Vit D with lots of good info, and bumped it up.

You might find some info in that thread.

I don't think I would work on a tan.

Just 10 minutes of unprotected sun gives you 10,000IUs of D. Your body absorbs what it needs, then stops.

My daughter wondered for years why she HATED being out in the sun. She thought it mader her sick.

Vit D has its proponents and detractors.

See http://www.marshallprotocol.com for the detractor side.

You need to make your own decision on this based on the evidence and your own responses.

Best,
