Hi,

This is savebabe's husband; I took this photo of my foot next to my wife's to demonstrate how red and inflamed her feet get.

Has anyone experienced this type of "burning" neuropathy, and if so do you have any tips for relief? Thank you and good luck to you all.

Hi,

I've had neuropathy throughout my entire body for four years - very slight improvement, but not much, on Lyme and Bart meds.

The other night I got up in the wee hours and my feet were bright red. It did go away but scared me.

I will mention it to my LLMD but I don't have an appointment for quite a while. If I learn anything I'll let you know. This was the first time for me that my skin was visibly red from the neuropathy.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm????

Playing footsies on the internet, eh? Better be careful with that behavior!

[lol]

I have ideas. But have you ever been just so tired you can't talk? That's me tonight. Sorry.

But I went to find out what is going on with you right now besides the feet.. and I am posting this here from your post so others can get a better idea where you are at right now. Maybe that will help them help you. (See I am trying to help!)

"My herx has been so bad that I feel like I have acute lyme all over again.

For the past few days my neuropathy has been so bad that my feet are bright red and hot to the touch.

I also have an increase in temp and nightsweats and just feel like I have the flu.

This is horrible, but hopefully once it breaks I will make more progress.

Feel better everyone!"

``````````````````````````````````````````````
My first GUESS is a die-off (toxins) reaction with the herx. Might soak your feet in an Epsom salt bath?
If that doesn't work.. might just go ahead and soak your head in it.
JUST kidding!
But maybe the Epsom salt bath will help detox you and calm the feet?
Answer me this...
How long have you had Lyme? How long did you go without treatment? Do you have bartonella?
Ask Charlie if he has any tips on calming feet. He is.. among other things.. our foot expert.
Hope you feel better soon. I'll try to respond more intelligently later when I find my brain.
Nice pictures by the way!
PS.. I am NOT a doctor and that was NOT medical advise. But it was free.
HI,
BUMMER,
I am like Jill, have PN, total body skin burning.
I wish I could offer encouragement, but mine has not improved either.
I would first check out Diabetes.
Can your wife take a warm epson salt bath?
I spend alot of time in a warm, not hot bath.
Does she do any foot detox?
My LLMD beleives that skin burning is from toxins.
Has she tried any pain meds? Elvail, Neurotin, Lyrica etc.
Does she take anything to improve circulation?
Garlic, Cumanda?
Nerve pain is the worsed.
Be patient and do your best to keep her spirits us.
There is an answer out there, we just have to find it.
I don't know where you live, but someone out west posted successs with a Photoic Stimulator.
Please feel free to email me if I can help.
God Bless you both [sleepy]
Peace,
BJG
I don't know much about you and for some reason I'm quite tired tonight as well.
Messed around too much in my garden today.
When my neuropathy first started and I did'nt know what it was or why.
I would give my feet icewater baths every night.
I would need to qwench them in a bathtub full of ice cubes and water about three or four times until the nerves quieted down enough for me to get some sleep.
Another thing I used was absorbine jr., for athletes feet. I think the stuff in that helped to disperse the heat off of my skin.
Ya know like using vinegar to disperse the heat of a sunburn.
If you have been on abx's there is a possibility that you have indeed started to get athletes feet.
The toxins I believe, well some of them anyway, go out the feet. If one does'nt use some kind of antitoxin, podipak or whatever the toxins stick in your feet.
Also, like I said, the abx could cause a really nasty case of athletes feet. I mean athletes feet is caused by fungus.
You might also try lotrimin cream on those little red devils. Usually when our body turns something "red" and heats up it's due to an infection of some kind.
Well we know you have an infection...BB.
But the docs, not even some of the LLMD's will tell you or even know some of the side effects of the antibiotics.
I know I have this athletes foot thing going on...at present.
Hope one of those suggestions helps....
BB
PS
I forgot to mention...the "pain dillers" that were mentioned earlier never worked for me. they are in fact NOT pain killers but anti seizure medications that some neurologist salesperson told the neurologists that they would work on neuropathy.
In reality we have symptoms of neuropathy...not the actual neuropathy...so they don't work the proper way.
Some have said that they have gotten relief from them....BB has not...
There was one other thing that happened to me while off of abx for quite awhile.
Somehow I contracted CELLULITIS...
I guess it's when the fat cells just under the skin get infected.
I swear mine was a major flare of my lyme but hey who knows.
So you can get other infections besides having to put up with fighting lyme.
Make sure she does'nt have a temperature and there is no "red line streaking". I believe that would indicate an infection.
Very serious I heard can lead to gangreen(spl) and amputation.
Diabetics have to worry about such stuff also.
If you're not already avoiding it...stay off the sugars...
good night
BB
burning feet was my most distressing symptom. And I couldn't tell if it was a hot burn or a cold burn like feet in bucket of ice but it was excruciating.
Time has fixed most of it...in the meantime;
Neurontin helped..i'd take 300mg and 50 mg ultram a couple of hours before bed and at least i could sleep.
questran helped some as did activated charcoal.
strangely...caffeine in the morning made it go away for a few hours...like 3 cups of strong coffee. but I mentioned that on here and just got scolded by the purists on the evils of caffeine...seems nobody wanted to listen, just make hard and fast rules.
I think that's part of the OCD component of this disease cluster, making and following rules to the letter, but if it works I'll do it whether it goes against accepted practice or not.
I still sleep with my feet out from under the covers a lot though...and it's been years although I mostly don't notice it now.
Don't know if my feet are/were red or not, it's flip flops or sandal weather here most of the year and my feet are pretty tan. They sure felt like they were up in flames though....
Hi everyone,
It is me, Savebabe! Thanks for the responses. This symptom really picked up while taking ceftin, so I think it is a lyme herx. I have been on bart and babs drugs for almost a year now, so this just started when I added more abx for the cell wall form of lyme.
I am also running high temps so I am starting to get concerned that there may be another infection present, besides a herx reaction. So I think I am going to give my llmd a call if things don't break soon.
I am also, going to look into everyone's suggestions. Thanks again for all the replies.
My hubby thanks you also!
I believe the cedax is in the same class of drugs that ceftin in is.
Looks like this could be a lyme herx.
Well Duhhhh,
I guess I was sleepier than I thought last night when I answered your post.
RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE....you were experiencing a temperature!
Boy I can only blame the tired eyes/brain. SO SORRY!
Yeah, in the case of a temperature I would definitely suspect another infection of some kind.
I'm REALLY glad now, that I got up off the couch,and mentioned the CELLULITIS.
We get so wrapped up in lyme, sometimes we forget that we are still susceptible for anything that humans can catch.
Perhaps even more so.
Hope everything turns out OK for ya....
Please let us know.
Coconut oil is anti fungal and the fats in it should help with the nerve part of it. You can treat both with no side effects.
Good Luck
OK, I looked up cellulitis and this is what I found.
Mild cases of cellulitis in otherwise healthy persons can be managed on an outpatient basis with oral antibiotic pills. Common oral antibiotics that are used to treat cellulitis include:
Dicloxacillin
Cephalexin
Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
Clindamycin
Linezolid
I think that lyme could be causing this because at one point I did have puss coming out from under my toenails. The only problem is that the drugs to treat cellulitis are the ones I am on to treat the lyme.
So now I don't know what to do. Anymore suggetions?
Thanks
Not to sound TOO stupid..
But do you eat it or rub it on your feet?
Or both?
[Big Grin]
Savebabe.. check with your doctor. The more symptoms you list.. the more complicated the picture. I think you need a professional to look at them and advise.
I did not think of rubbing it in but I am sure you could do both. I am not sure if it is water soluble though.
Hi Everyone,
I have the same thing and the bicillin really made it unbearable.
But my LLMD suggested an Infrared sauna and it has detoxed me so well that my feet are getting better.
Just watch your electrolytes on the sauna. It was worth buying it.
