My LLMD prescribed Tindomax for me over the next month or so--along with pulsing Zithro at the same time. I received the Tindomax from the pharmacy (the pharmacy is out of state--less expensive/insurance won't cover this one). The problem is that they sent me 500 mg capsules. My doctor prescribed starting with 250 mg in the am and 250 in the pm--and then building up from there.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? I tried one whole capsule for the first two days and my stomach has been hurting quite a bit. Maybe this will get better with some time? Or...maybe I should cut the capsules in half. Any thoughts?

Are you sure your doctor wanted you to take 250 mg twice a day and not 500? When I took tendamax I took it 500 mg twice a day, but I also know that my doctor likes to perscribe really stong pills.

If he did tell you to take 250 mg I would cut the pills in half. You can buy a pill cutter from a local pharmacy so that the pill isnt wasted. Works much better then a knife and cutting board [Smile]

Taking half a pill twice a day might help ease your stomach and keep blood levels constant. I also took tendamax with food.

Hope this helps,
Lindsay

You guys have nice docs mine put me on 500mg three times (1500mg total) a day right from day one. The worst side effect from it I had was a really bad metaillic taste.

I did what LuLuFlorida advises and took it with food and it helped with any stomach upset. Check with a pharmacist to see if its ok to cut them in half. Some pills are meant to dissolve slowly and cutting them in half can change that.

Tindamax is a good drug and easier to take side effect wise than its cousin Flaygl. Although Flagyl comes in generic and is much cheaper. Good luck.

I had heard some nasty stories about tindi from people on Lymenet. So when my LLMD prescribed it (about 9 months into abx treatment), I knew I was going to ramp up slowly.

I also had 500 mg caps but went to the pharmacy and bought some clear caps. Then I just opened and divided them. I slowly increased them to the maximum dose my LLMD prescribed.

even still, my herx on tindi was pretty rough -- a blistering headache, a lot of nasty neuro stuff -- but I felt like this drug really helped me a lot. Continues to, though I just pulse it once a month now.

I hope this helps!

Andie

I am suppose to take 500 mg twice a day of Tindamax but to start out with smaller doses and then ramp up to the 500 mg according to my LLMD.

I have yet to find some Tindamax which is affordable but may have to settle with Tindozole instead.

Try eating fresh pineapple with any meds that upset your stomach or drinking some pineapple juice with them. Pineapple is very healing for the digestive track. If you do not like pineapple try taking your meds with apple sauce. When ever my stomach starts to hurt I reach for the pineapple juice.
