I have my Igenex test kit & an appt. for Tuesday. The tests I am supposed to have are the IgG & IgM Western blots, the Lyme IFA, & the PCR. What are the IFA & PCR tests? Do I really need those? The total cost would be $450. If I just do the IgG & IgM, it would be $245. If I added the PCR but not the IFA, it would be $390.

Help!

Pam

If you are short on cash, by all means get the IgG and IgM and leave it at that.

The PCR is solid proof you have Lyme IF it shows positive, but if it shows negative, it doesn't mean for sure that you don't have it.

confused!? [dizzy]

The IFA I don't know much about.

The IFA is a titer test, sort of like an ELISA. The CDC standards recommend an IFA or ELISA as a first screening test.

My IFA came back positive as 1:80 and my Western blot came back negative (39+, 58+, 41IND)...go figure.

Why me? Well, why not me???

If it's just a screening test, I wouldn't bother.

Betty,

False alarm. I was looking at the panels price lists & not the individual a la carte items. The WBs, the #188 & 189 tests, are $95 each so that's what I will do.
