Hi, I was wondering what any of you thought about this. I could just kick myself! I was diagnosed with Lyme 2 years ago, and have been symptom free for about 1 year, thank goodness. Anyway, this past week my face started breaking out really bad,and I remembered when I was on doxycycline how clear my face was, since it is in the same family as tetracycline, used to treat acne. Long story short, I started taking some leftover doxy, to clear my face, and have been having lyme symptoms ever since. Joint pain, headaches, extreme fatigue, brain fog. I'm not sure what to do,did I cause this flare, by taking the doxy? What do you think?

then you may not have been clear of infection. Doxy doesn't cause symptoms on it's own.
do what you want, maybe you need another course of meds

Doxy was what stirred my Lyme up, too.
I have had it for 35 years, but only had four significant flares ... between the flares, I only had sporadic symptoms that weren't significant... then I got sick with something else, took 21 days of doxy, which caused the Lyme to become active, this time requiring treatment.
I would have seeked treatment for the other flares, but no one could figure out what was wrong with me.
I agree that the doxy doesn't cause the Lyme, but my personal experience shows me that it can stir it up.

Well...it stirred it up because you are killing spirochetes.... You are herxing. You must still have the infection. You MIGHT be able to quit taking it and get back to normal.
Or you might want to continue so that you kill all the spirochetes.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll continue the course of treatment, call my doctor to get some pain meds to get me through the joint pain. I just hope she doesn't want to do a total workup again, blood, xrays and such, I know exactly what it feels like to have a flare up, I just need to wait it out, thanks again.
