What is the difference?

I think the only reason my llmd wanted me off of doxy was because of sensitivity to the sun. But I'm not out in the sun that often and I wear sunscreen when I am.

For 5 pills of zithro I paid $15.. while 60 pills of doxy only cost me like $5.

So I would rather take doxy if they are the same.

I'll ask my dr's nurse about it when she calls me back... just wanted to see if ya'll knew the difference.

It's a different class of antibiotic than the doxy.

Read here about each:

They are different drugs. With lyme disease, not every drug works for every person. I was on doxycycline for a month and saw no improvement and improved greatly on zithromax. i am sure your doctor is switching medications for a reason, just ask him why. Zithromax is expensive but well worth it in my opinion.

I'm taking both. When Amantadine was added to this mix they seemed to work better.

Hi Lauren

Doxy worked well for me, but the dosage needs to be high. I started at 300 mg a day (3 pills) and went up to 500 mg daily over three months. Some people report higher doses. Its hard on the stomach, don't go in the sun, wear sun glasses and be prepared for your teeth to brown but don't worry, it comes right off with a good hygenist cleaning.

Zithromax helped clear the brain fog that doxy didn't get. Zith was much easier to tolerate at 500 mg a day. Fortunately it is Generic now, but likely still much more than Zith.

If you don't have insurance give the doxy a good chance. With insurance, your copay should be similar with 30 day supply of either.

The drugs are very different.

Good luck

Helloo Lauren Turner,

Wow,how did you get 5 Zithromax for $15??? We just paid $103 for 10 caplets, and that was generic. Course we don't have any insurance right now.

Dr. is having me try Zith' and Cipro [ only $4.00 for 20 at Walmart].BEcause the whole 20 Zith' would have cost us $186,we went half of the Zith,so by the time we get the other 10 Zith we'll have paid $206 which seems like highway robbery.

I hope the Zith' works for you,and me too.
