Jenin,
This is fascinating -- I've been experiencing this since I was in my early 20's. I've never found out what it is, and I've asked a couple of specialists.
So...I'm looking forward to other people's experience with this. If it resolves, please post with "how" as well!
With best wishes,
CBL.

I don't know what it is, but for years I sometimes get what is like a tiny drummer in my ears.

Me too. I can't really describe this but it's like a vibration/pulsing. I keep thinking of the crash of a cymbal but the sound isn't that sharp as that.
Can anyone explain what is actually causing all this Lyme ear stuff? What do the spirochetes do? Or co-infections? Where are they attached? What are they targeting?
So many bits and pieces and no answers.

What you hear is your eardrum retracting. It's a huge pain the butt!
I have had it all my life! It has even gone as far as causing hearing loss for me. I was completely deaf for 3 weeks....good thing I grew up in the deaf community!
It is caused by uneven pressure in your sinus'and down to your ears. I don't about all the other Lymies out there...but I have always had serious sinus problems and infections and this goes along with it. And then having the constant ringing...you can go insane!!!!!
The only thing that helps is getting tubes put in and this doesn't always work 100% and it's just a temporary fix anyhow.
Hope this answers a few questions.

Allison. Thanks! One EMT said my eardrum was "retracted." I believe this is thought to be caused by infections though I never had an ear infection in my life. (Bitten on the near-deaf ear and developed a BL.)
I have had multiple sinus infections. That whole thing never got better until I refused to take any antihistamines ever again and had some accupuncture. I think a lot of the sinus stuff is Babs.
An EMT put a tube in one ear but the hearing was worse. I am nearly deaf in that ear. I'd rather be stone deaf in that ear than listen to the noise for another 5 minutes. Some days I want to cut my head off because the noise in both ears is so horrific.
When the tinnitus is at its worst I race around doing anything I can think of to keep my mind off the noise. Then I pay the price later. When I am the most tired from my avoidance techniques, the sounds are intensified and then I get all wound up from the noise which causes anxiety. Then I can't sleep so I am even more tired. A viscious circle.

I've had this since I've had bilateral facial paralysis and multiple cranial nerve polyneuropathy. I'm 7 months into the "ruling out" phase. The ear noise is one of my worst symptoms. It sometimes feels like it pulls from one ear, through my head and to the other ear. Its almost like a jittery wind noise. The way I try to explain it is if you are at a concert and look at those huge speakers they have --- when you look at the middle section that vibrates so fast it is hard to see ---- that's what my ear feels like, just not constant.....it's off and on. Somtimes worse when I lay down.
