I had been doing mepron 1 tsp/ 2 times a day for babs with zithro.....but I feel so awful on it and have been trying malerone....but LLMD only has me on 1 pill a day. I feel like it is not enough medicine if you compare it to the mepron. What dosage has everyone else used for malerone? Which works better...malerone or mepron? Thanks, Nikki

I would say mepron works better. I've heard malarone referred to as "mepron lite"!!

If you're herxing then one pill is enough!

One adult dose (one pill) per day was enough for me! The side-effects/herxes were pretty tough the first two months. I took it for a little over 5 months, I hope it beat the babs. Honestly, I am not sure, because my breathing was easier while on the malarone...though otherwise I do feel better coming off it.

I heard malarone is better for WA-1 babs, mepron for the other. I think my LLMD told me this

Mepron was better for me. I took 1 pill malorone for a few months because my LLMD did not think I could tolerate mepron. I felt horrible the whole time I was on it - a LOT of air hunger and just felt terrible in general. As soon as I was on 1/2 dose mepron my air hunger went away and I could breath better than I had in years. On full dose I slept better for many days in a row. It was heaven. Still felt very bad though.

Found out my liver enzymes were very high. Off everything for 3 weeks. Liver enzymes fell very quickly. Back on zith and mepron again. Still having air hunger and not sleeping well but it's only been a week or so.

For me, mepron was better but in the long run I don't know which one is better.

Mepron is stronger because it has more of the atovaquone in it.

I was taking 2 tablets of Malarone per day, plus Lariam and Art. I had to go back on the Mepron and feel better within just a few days, but I've been treating for 16 months.

It takes time to start feeling better from babs. Hang in there.
