Are bacterial vaginosis a part of Lyme in women?

Hi, I don't know if medically it's been proven to be a symptom of lyme, but my daughter (who is now 13 yrs)who's had lyme, bartonella, and babesiosis since she was about 5 yrs old, had constant...and I mean constant...vaginal yeast infections.
She had all those horrible symptoms that only grown women should have to deal with. She went for years having to have "special" medicine from the pediatricians to keep in under control.
Of course, she wasn't on antibiotics at the time either, because they swore she didn't have lyme, although they coudln't give me an answer as to why a 5 yr old girl had adult symptoms. Go figure.
She's currently on diflucan, which keeps those nasty infections at bay. She was also on it when she had IV as well because she would get them so bad.
Hope this helps. Oh, my sister and I both seem to get this problem more frequently than before we had lyme.

I think it is. I had this when lyme first hit me hard....ever since then ive had the majority of my symptoms in my pelvis. yeast infection for one year strait...even while eating no sugar.
Take a good probiotic they do help.
princesslee, i really feel for your daughter. Has the yeast subsided while on abx?

Since lyme can comprimise your immune system that would leave you open to catghing all sorts of infection ~ Yeast, viral bacterial ect.. I would think this BV might be cause & effect from the lyme.

CJ, I had a bacterial infection for years and was given monistat over and over. (This was prediagnosis.)
Years later, I had a GYN that knew how to use a microscope and found it was bacterial, garnerella(sp?), not fungal. It was treated with Flagyl and stayed gone for 3 years.
When I started having problems again I went to the same doc and she found Staph Aureus. Flagyl herxed me really bad that time and was tried on a bunch of ABX all of which made me feel like I had the flu. We kept changing them until I could finish a course of one.
About 6 months later I was diagnosed with Lyme. That reaction to the ABX was a clue to the folks that diagnosed me to help confirm it.
I don't know if TBDs make you more suceptible(sp?) or not but know it has happened and at least the second time I definately had Lyme.

I recently had a case of BV and it had to be treated with keflex.
I believe that our bodies are so run down from TBD's that we are prone to everything.

I have had chronic BV's for the past 4 years. Flagyl over and over and over!
The only bad reaction ever had was to Zpack - I broke out in hives and got so darn sick it was scary. 2 ER visits, 2 visits to GFP. It was so scary! I thought I was going to die.
They never suspected a thing but allergic reaction. I had taken Zpack 2 or 3 times before over the previous 2 years for chronic sinus infections. With no reaction and then BAM!!!!! And I mean BAM!
I look back over my history and now learning of Lyme wonder how in the heck someone hadnt picked up on this before! 8 years!!!!
From Bells Palsy, now permanent facial spasms and facial pain, TMJ, BV's, peripheral neuropathy, coch??(Never can remember that one - pain between ribs),
chronic sinus infections, night sweats terrible, issues with my sweating, terrible and I mean terrible fatigue, GI issues sending me to ER on more than one occasion over the years,
terrible anxiety and panic attacks, depression, shaking/tremors from head to toe, heart palpitations so bad they put me down in the bed for days, pelvic pain, I have even been suicidal twice out of no where!!!!
NOT LIKE ME AND MY BODY! I told them all it was like a light switch and something changed inside my body - I can FEEL IT!!!!
I am sure there is more if I thought about it! Funny I havent taken anyone out, including myself! (not really funny but I know you all would understand!)
I have been to Neurologists x3, GFP, Internist x2, Muscular dr, Chiropractor, ENT x3, Cardiologist
I have had MRI's, Brain Scans, X-rays, blood works, Bone Scan, exploratory surgery on my jaw to try and figure out what was going on
I just dont get it! I even went in on 4 occassions with a prepared list of everything I was dealing with - in BLACK AND WHITE!!! and NO ONE has ever suspected or mentioned this possibility.
They kept saying STRESS - PSYCHOSOMATIC - here is an antidepressent and anxiety medication and get into counseling....
so I would question my sanity for a while, accept that it was all in my head and take the meds and go to counseling! Then I would get angry again and go back to them saying - NO SOMEHTING IS NOT RIGHT!!!!! HELP ME!
Only to get the same ol, same ol.
Thanks for letting me vent. I gotta tell ya, this is horrible...I want the ME that I know I am BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cantgiveupyet Yes, my daugher has been doing better with antibiotics, but she also takes diflucan with it. Regular blood tests help make sure her liver and kidneys are unaffected. Thanks for your concern!
cjnelson TBD is tick born diseases. All the other nasty co-infections that can go along with lyme. I totally understand about wanting your old self back!

I notice this is an old post, but thought I'd share my experiences anyway.
Before I was diagnosed with Lyme, I was put on abx for two months to treat sinus infections. I ended up with chronic vaginal yeast infections that took over a year to get rid of.
During the treatment of the yeast infections, I developed vaginal bacterial infections. My ob/gyn said it was a bad cycle that results because of an imbalance in the natural flora in my system.
Just as yeast can grow when you kill the good bacteria, bad bacteria can grow when you kill the yeast and the good bacteria.
I would guess it is possible these bacterial problems could develop from being on abx for Lyme and treating yeast, without getting the right probiotics in your system. I've started opening up probiotic capsules and putting them directly on that area when I have a vaginal yeast infection.
Maybe this would help with bacterial infections to? It's a way to make sure the good bacteria get where you need them.

I used to get a lot of vaginal infections. Usually metronidazole was the one that helped most - sometimes Diflucan. I liked metronidazole better though, maybe because it helped some of my other symptoms, too.

I had Bv this summer that did not go away despite treating 2 times w/flagyl.
I read on a mid-wives site about the use of raw garlic in the vagina and around the vaginal area.
What the heck, I gave it a try and my symptoms cleared 75% overnight and totally in 2 days.

I've been sick for 13 yrs, but only in the last 3-4 yrs, I've suffered from recurring yeast and BV infections. By the way, BV and yeast infections are not the same. I'm not sure if it's a symptom of lyme, but it seems conducive to this illness. I use boric acid tablets to get rid of both and also tee tree oil. I've not had one in over 6 months. And I'm not yet being treated for lyme.
