i admit it, i cheated today. i couldn't help myself.

i drank an orange crush..arrgghhh

within about an hour, i started getting heart palpitations, sweating, jitters. i really felt ill.

then i read on the can and it said something about 52 grams of caffeine or something like that. hhmm, not sure, maybe it was 52 of sugar.

well whatever, it threw me for a loop.

does anybody else have problems with caffeine? i'm assuming it was the caffeine...

Oh, I love caffeine.
I take a couple Excedrin Migraine in the morning to help me "get going."

When I was employed, a good cup of coffee helped my flagging energy.

If I drink more than a cup of caffeine, I often start twitching. Is that those whaddayacallums, myclonus something-or-others? That jerking motion, but only on my left side. It's quite embarrassing in public! [Big Grin]

I was fine with caffeine before I got sick, then I started having huge problems with caffeine, palps, agitation, shaking, tremors. Couldn't touch the stuff.

Now after lots of treatment I can tolerate it again. It even helps a bit with other Parkinson's-type symptoms & brain fog.

There is a lot more in coffee that is not good for you, than caffeine.

I used to drink 5 or 6 cups a day when I smoked back in the 60's and 70's, but when I quit, I had to stop coffee altogether. Later I started drinking decaf coffee.

I at times drank up to 5 cups a day, but even though it was decaf, that many cups would make me quite nervous.

NOW I just drink ONE cup in the morning of decaf. The other elements are enough to "perk" me up for the morning.

I think everyone will be a little different when it comes to a lot of this stuff, just like some have decent results with abx, and others of us can't take them at all.

Nothing works better then the first cup.

For a lot of us our adrenals are screwed up from the lyme and candida. Our stress hormones are out of balance and we dont produce enough cortisol to balance the nuero transmitters when we have a cup.

Coffee basically puts us in a stress state, this state does raise dopamine so we feel more alert but yet get addicted.

Caffeine also screws up blood flow to the brain and limbs therefore alot of us get cold hands and feet when we drink coffee.

After the first cup I get very foggy and nervous/depressed.

The first cup lifts my mood and makes my mind clear and motivated. Strange I know.

I am pretty sure that soda doesn't have caffeine but must have had 52 grams of sugar. That would throw me for a loop.

Actually, most sodas do have caffeine...Mt. Dew has one of the highest levels....Sprite doesn't, some root beers and ginger ales don't...All colas do unless they say so on the label. I don't know about Orange Crush...sorry....You have to check the ingredients list to see if your chosen soda is caffeine free in most instances...sorry about that!

Randibear,

Orange crush does NOT have caffiene in it. You are probably reacting to all the sugar in the drink. I personally love caffiene and do not have any adverse reaction to it.

whew, i just assumed, and sounds like incorrectly, that it was caffeine.

checked the can -- loaded with sugar!!

so that's what it probably was!!

jimbob, thanks for the english lesson. that's one word i can never get straight -- effect, affect, whatever....

anyway, the caffeine CAUSED me to have symptoms...

hehehehhe...more than one way to skin a cat...

caffeine in computer programmer doses (Bawls, Jolt+, red bull) and such is the only caffeine that seems to really affect me. It just makes me feel a little...odd, but no twitches or anything. Normal coffee, tea, sodas etc... I don't even feel it.

I gave it up totally for about four months last year when I had severe naseau (I used to drink it all day). I love very strong coffee and used to order my lattes/cappichinos' with an extra shot. I also LOVE espresso.

Now I have only one cup in the a.m. I always use Organic Beans (coffee is one of the "dirtiest" products LOTS of pesticides). I grind them myself and "cold brew" my coffee for 12 hours. Cold brewing removes 67% of the acid. It makes a concentrate that lasts for up to ten days. Add water and heat. It's delicious (I also buy very good coffee since I can't have alcohol, sugar, chocolate, etc I spoil myself here!) I make it about 30 to 40% caffeine and it doesn't affect me at all excpet to get me "moving".

I'm thinking about a caffine transfusion. Rather than blood, I will just allow coffee or tea to course through my veins.

In all seriousness, I love the stuff. Yes, it does upset my heart murmur just a tad bit now and then, but truly, with all this fatigue, it really helps get me moving. I don't want to live without it.

I know there's a lot of bad press about coffee, but it's actually the only thing that gets me through my day! 0 - 3 cups depending on how tired I am. I know, scold me, but I haven't found a substitute. Is there one?
