I've had a few sx continue for several months now while on the following regimen - zith 500mg, art 400mg, Mepron 1500mg and, this last month, Flagyl twice a day. The sx include pain from the left shoulder that runs down my arm into the meaty part of my hand. Sometimes I nearly drop an object when I try to pick it up because the weight of the object (like a telephone) causes a stab of pain. Neck and shoulders are often stiff and uncomfortable also. Occasional arthritis-type pain in finger joints as well.

Because of stomach issues, LLMD has had me go off all meds until tomorrow, a 3 1/2 day break. He has me taking my probiotics as usual and taking Pepto-Bismol twice a day to heal the gut. During this time, my neck and shoulders are better and the arm pain is almost gone.

Is it possible that the meds have poisoned my system and that I need to go off of them to let my body clean itself up? Or is it more likely that my ongoing discomforts while taking them are one long herx reaction?

BTW, I am now on the very strict anti-candida diet again to prevent that nasty leaky gut thing.

Thanks for any thoughts and experiences you might share!

When I went of meds, I felt better. So did a friend of mine. However, both of us had symptoms begin returning after a few days. I think it's the herxing that causes the ongoing symptoms.

It could indeed be a long herx. I had one for a full year.

BUT....Flagyl can cause nerve damage. Maybe you need to revisit that possibility with your LLMD?? Sounds like nerve pain to me.

Then again....it could just be a herx. My nerves flared when I was herxing on abx.

Thank you both for your replies. I do get some neural sx on Flagyl - eye twitches and twitches inside my nose (nice!) - but that has only been in the rotation for a month. Hasn't affected the continuing pains for the better or worse as far as I can tell. I'm beginning to lean towards the long herx side of the question, though.

Meanwhile, my stomach is only about 50% better, so I don't know whether to go back on abx today as planned or whether to wait until things... ahem...solidify. Think I'll put in a call to the LLMD and see what he says.

Any further thoughts always welcome. [Smile]
