I am trying Clindamycin/Quinine treatment for Babesia. (20 days)

The Quinine gives me such a strong reaction that I don't know if I can tolerate it. It makes it very hard for me to continue to work full-time.

(Sx: Dizziness, migraine, nausea, diarrhea, word-finding problems, blurred vision, insomnia, pain.)

My question is:
Has anyone gone ON and OFF the Quinine to help minimize the herx?

I pour out part of the capsule, so I'm only taking about 100mg (instead of 324mg/day), but that's still too much.

If I take it every other day or every 3rd day, am I screwing up my treatment?

I saw in another thread that going with low doses of abx can produce resistant strains. I don't want to do more harm than good.

[bonk]

thanks!!!

Maybe it's the clindamycin knocking you for a loop??

Babesia herxes were worse than Lyme herxes for me.

I did this combo, my LLMD said to start off with 1/4 or 1/3 cap of each and work up.

I was VERY ill with this combo, when I say ill, I mean, HAD to go slow or die from herxing.

Quinine was deadly for herxing.

Hi Bird

Babs herxes are the worst--
Not much you can do about them except
drink Lots of tea or water --

The main thing with quinine is not to
over do it because it can cause Hearing damage-
Ringing--

Quinine helped me alot--Jay

Thanks for all the responses! I'm taking Qualaquin, in capsule form. (324mg capsules)

Good advice about pouring out part of the capsule. I have been doing that, although I hate to see $ going down the sink... [Smile]

But I tried the alternative -- pouring some into applesauce and eating it, and the taste was unbearable!

I'm glad to hear that it is normal to herx so hard on the Babs treatment.

Jay -- thanks for the tip to drink more water and tea. I will get right on that. I saw in another thread that you're feeling better -- I'm glad to hear that!

The good news is:
I had a good day yesterday!!! My first in several months! I was still having problems finding some words, but I noticed a real difference; it was better than normal. My brain felt better in general. This is such a morale booster for me. [Razz]

Maybe this is the key to getting better -- kicking the Babs down.

How long did you all stay on the Babs treatment?
