First off.....I'm NOT blaming new member "magaro".... He/she has a thread in Medical asking about success stories.
When I replied to it, my computer started going nuts. I've had this happen to me before. The last time prior to today's problem was about 10 days ago on Lymenet when I opened another thread.
I'm just warning everyone to skip that particular thread [magaro's] just in case!!!
Magaro....I also wanted to tell you to click on my story to read another success story. I think the Success Stories link got posted to your thread. I'm not going back there to see!!!!
PS....I ran my Spybot and Ad-Aware and I think everything is fine again. Whew!

I've had random threads show up as some kind of computer jargon ... I just hit reload, and it looks like normal. I don't know what's wrong, it's been happening for a couple days.

for a few days now I've been getting pdf downloads and sometimes pages of computer code when I open threads. I'm using a Mac so I don't worry about it.
I think it's just a glitch in the site software...it goes away if I try to open it a second time. My computer acts fine except for this site, It always acts perfectly fi

Tutu, I recently have had someone sending me email where it is from me and to me. I blamed it somehow on opening a link on a post on here..
Then my service provider requested that I do a computer checkup and upgrade and I lost everything. So lymenet only got the ball rolling..
I would caution everyone from opening any links if you do not know the sender..lmt

Thanks for the warning TuTu,
TrendMicro has a good free virus scan if anyone needs it. It's called HouseCall

Jay....I'm using OSX 10.3.9 on one computer and 10.4.something on the other.
I've saved those CGIs to desktop and opened them with text edit (for you Winders people text edit is a mac program that also opens UNIX files, sort of, but very crudely)
All I get is a page of computer code which looks harmless to me.

You should not get a virus from opening a post. You could get a virus from clicking a link within the post. The site could download a virus to your computer.
Important tips:
1. Check for updates for your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox).
2. Scan for viruses using Ad-Aware, Spybot, or other anti-virus programs.
**This info is from my husband. He's an IT professional (or claims to be).

I didn't open a link. I just tried to post a reply.
I ran my Spybot and Ad-Aware to clear whatever it was. It mentioned Zedo and Blue Streak I believe. I've seen those before.

I've had the same problems lately. I try to reply to something, and my puter goes crazy.
It opens window after window.... You can't keep up with trying to close them out.
I run Norton and everything shows up as fine.
Just weird.

Thanks TuTu!
My scan turned up some kind of "key logger" that I haven't figured out how to get rid of yet.
It seems we're all noticing all these freaky problems only on here. Darned if I know what threads it's happened to me on. I know I'll get problems when trying to post a reply.
One of the problems I was having was when trying to copy & paste. I thought it might be memory or something, so closed my browser & rebooted. I've done that a couple of times.

Perhaps it could be related to some link we've all viewed at some point, but which one?
I've been having problems for quite a while.

If you think you are having virus symptoms when you reply to a post, most likely you have been infected for awhile. Most viruses, keyloggers and downloaders come from emails.
If you get a message pop-up, do a Google search on it to find out what it is and how to remove it.
Another way to look for unwanted programs is to run Task Manager. You can do this by clicking on the Start button, then Run, then type in taskmgr and click OK.
Click on the Processes tab and you can see what is running on your computer. Do a Google search on any of the names to see if they are safe or not.
You can't rely on Spybot or Ad-Aware catching everything because they won't. There is malware that can't be detected. There are other anti-virus/anti-spyware programs but the new malicious stuff uses rootkit technology to hide from them all. They are very difficult to remove. If you think you have something like this, the best way to remove it is to do a Google search on it for specific removal instructions.

tom,
i just had the perfect example happen to me, so i copied/pasted it to a PM to send you, but included the LINK also.
it came back saying, NO HTL PERMITTED; so it didn't go anywhere.
tom, if you pm me a direct email for you, i'll try sending my next example to you; was 100% computer programing! i used to type these as a keypunch/data entry operator so I know what they are!

I've been having various problems with LymeNet for awhile..... every few days, I simply can't bring up the site at all - I just get a blank, white page.
Lately, I will click on a thread and when it appears, it does not show all the posts. The scroll bar on the R indicates that I am at the bottom of the page, but I'm not. So I hit the refresh button, and then the thread will appear normally.
This happened as late as yesterday.....

And then trying to go back using my backwards symbol.
I just closed out of Lymenet and haven't had this problem since.
Knock on wood.

Every few days I'm also unable to log on to site. I figured for a while that one of the moderators were cleaning up some stuff, but?????
It might be hours or the next day before I can log on again.

I was messing with different virus scans all day yesterday. I found evidence of a Trojan and got rid of some viruses.
Something had hidden my "cookies" folder. Hubby found that for me and I cleaned out all the cookies except for those I knew were needed. (I figured whatever was messing with me had cookies they needed or they wouldn't have hid my folder)
I am now AT WAR!!!! If I can figure out what the heck I've done or am doing I will clue you all in. So far, today no problems yet, knock wood.
I ran the Panda Active Scan and it wiped out SunJava as a virus? I'm not sure that was right.
I'm off to try to figure out what's going on with the Trojan, that freaks me out.
I wish I knew what we could have opened/downloaded! This is just maddening!!!!

tbrown, I don't think the problems are related to specific pages but are sporadic and related to the site in general.
A few times a page would open with the source code rather than the rendered html. Often times I would also get a mostly blank page with some formatting code in html along the top of the page. Sometimes the video is scrambled.
This is the only site that I'm having problems with. The site is also very slow. This has been going on for a number of days but it's better today. Maybe the software that runs the forum is having a problem or perhaps the server?

I'm still having lots of problems with pages here loading correctly. I have to hit the refresh button on a regular basis to correct the problem.
Others, too?

Can't tell you what that means specifically, but I use Ad-aware every week. On the advice of our computer guy I routinely select tracking cookies & quarantine all of them. After a few months-I delete them. Haven't had problems.. Sue

Keep in mind I am not the most computer savvy person....(haven't even tried to master graemlins on this site). You have me beat in the computer arena- but will share what I was told.
From what I understand once they are quarantined they are disabled & can't keep tracking you and/or possibly interfering with your internet use.
After a reasonable amount of time, you can be sure they weren't necessary if all works as usual on frequently visited sites & then dump them.
Using the quarantine as the first step still allows you to retrieve any you might find useful. I have been doing this for years & have NEVER had to pull one out of quarantine
This is one of those things I do regularly without giving too much thought! (the obedient child in me comes out because I HATE computer issues).
Maybe a new post would shed more light? Sue
