I took Alinia for babs for about 18 months. It seems to be a good, safe drug and works well in combination with other abx. The only problem is that it is so incredibly and ridiculously expensive. Take it as long as you can afford it!

Did it seem to make a dent in the babesia? I seem to be tolerating it fine with little herxing.
I have only been rxed it for a short course of 20 days at 1000mg bid. I'll do anything to get rid of this babesia. Yea its expensive but good insurance coverage and it is just a $$10 copay.

I herxed Real strong about 3 hours of the first dose --
I was very sick for along time and had only taken Doxi for treatment for about 1 year-
My stomach worked Much Better after taking Alinia for a week --
I would recommend taking it--
The generic form does not work as good as the name brand for me -- Jay--

I can't say for sure that the Alinia was the only thing that helped, 'cause kicking babs has been a long long haul for me. But I know in combination with Zith and Mepron I had a heck of a herx the first 3 months. Then plateau. Then resistance to Mepron. Then different combinations here and there, along with plateaus. I would just say take it with other abx that your doc advises, and as SOON as you feel a plateau, ask to switch abx. This pathogen is really insidious and seems to stay one step ahead of you. Good luck!

Just went back on it two days ago.
When I first took it I felt nothing and then a little herx.
Now I know thats its doing somethign cause I feel like I have the flu.
Could be stress from starting work again and lifing but I think that alinia made things worse.
They keep saying parisites first and then the yeast. Well I herx terrible on yeast killers and I was getting no where. Would have to lay down for 4 hours on 3 drops of GSE.

Alinia although prescribed as an antiparasitic is also used in other ways.
It seems to be a cyst buster as well as a chete killer.
I would suggest we all try it at least for a couple of monthly episodes of our disease.
I used it along with mepron and ketek and got some really good results. Not that I recommend this but....
Hey...I'm feeling better. The dang sweats are still with me however...sheesh...funny thing though...
Last night I was in the same spot I was in the two previous wednesday nights exactly....the first two nights I sweat my butt off. I mean really streaming down my head, neck face etc.
Last night nothing....however I did have a "hot flash" that made me eventually leave where I was.

I'm off the Mepron while I take the Alinia. I will probably start the Mepron again after the course of Alinia.
I have been feeling a little better while on Alinia but the lung/breathing/air hunger problem still persists. Not feeling as physicially ill.
I have noticed that the having a brick feeling in my gut is better, but the diarrhea I could do without. Well, then again I could do without all of this sickness crap.
I really appreciate everyones feedback. I have done alot of research on babesia and am curious that chloroquine/primaquine treatment is not used more often. I don't want to suffer thru this babesia for years unnessarily if there are other treatments available side effects notwithstanding.
Does liz28 come to lymenet anymore? I like all of her research about babesia treatment and would like to ask her a few questions.
I do know that they
