My husband had an allergic reaction to Cipro after taking it for 2 weeks. Severe hives all over his back and over most of his body. I mean horrible half dollar welts that connected, raising 1/4 inch above.
We started him out on Benadryl then called in and got a steroid pak, because the hives where in his mouth too.
I have been searching articles about cipro and can not find how long it will stay in the system. Anyone have any ideas?
The Benadryl and steroids do not seem to be helping completely, it has been a week. Has anyone else had this problem? (I hate cipro)
Thanks for any input. fogged

I had a really painful herx from Cipro a month ago. I took it for 3 days for a UTI, and was in intense pain for over a week.
The herx was so long, it suggests to me the abx was in my system for a while.
There was a recent article about Stevens Johnson Syndrome that I posed. SJS is a very severe allergic reaction to antibiotics. It is rare, but if your husband is still having problems, I would call your doctor and at least ask about it. Especially if he is getting worse.

quote: You probably won't find much more here. Cipro is not main-stream Lyme so it is not well known on this site.
We see Dr C in MO and he prescribes Cipro w/ Zithromax for Lyme.
I had found a lot of info on Cipro with the search here but nothing about the length.
Thanks for your info though. fogged

Cipro also comes in an extended release form. So if it was that, it will stay in the body longer.

Be glad if that is all Cipro does to you. I lost my colon to Cipro, and so did at least two others in this area who use the same doctor I do. THAT was before I got Lyme.
After I got Lyme, my duck gave me Cipro again for the Lyme, and after 5 days, my pain was gone, for about 8 or 9 months, and then I relapsed. And my duck wouldn't believe it was Lyme again, so wouldn't give me any more abx. So it got worse and worse.
I finally had to go to herbs to get help.
And the herbs DO help.
HOPE you don't get the bad colitis like I did from the Cipro. Many do, many don't. It is a crap shoot.
I am sorry you went thru such a horrible experience.
Well, that is his secondary problem. He is going in to the local doc here, appt is on Wed. so we will see what they give him. Flagyl is usually given, but we don't tolerate it well having Lyme.(as you know I am sure)
My husband was scheduled for a colonoscopy(?) for tomorrow, Tuesday, but because of the hives and being on steroids he had to post pone it.
Your post has put a scare into me now. He is to have the procedure on the 28th.
Thank you for posting your experience. Fogged

Sorry about your reaction to Cipro. I took one pill aday, 500mg, developed extreme pain in right foot after 10 days and at times had to use the crutches to get around.
Let LLMD know, stopped taking the pill 13 days ago, pain and burning has improved greatly. LLMD said a reaction like this will happen to some. Good luck?

All I can say is unless you already do NOT have a colon, STAY AWAY from Cipro, PERIOD.
IF they want to sue me, let them go for it. I haven't got much they can take, and who knows maybe I would get something from them for what they caused me and many others.
It is just another one of those "bottom Line" drugs that the companies keep pushing on us, instead of finding ways to make us all better, and by making the earth and our food and habits better. (Course no money in it for them that way, right?).
