well, another sleepless night. went to bed and woke up at 2:00 in excruciating pain. i was curled up almost in tears.
my stomach was hurting so bad. right where the ribs curve, through to the right back and down along that side.
eating causes pain and makes me sick to my stomach.
i was passing gas of course and that didn't help. i went to the bathroom, passed a few pieces.
i was sweating like crazy and my face was jerking. my heart rate was up and so was bp.
i'm off all antibiotics and haven't taken any for to weeks.
then took pepto bismol and that sort of helped.
i gave in and made an appt with my primary today for 1:30.
somebody has got to do something. i'm leaving for wyoming for the month of october and i'm scared half to death to be so far away from my doctors.
can lyme cause digestive problems? stomach pain? could this all be a herx kind of thing? could the andro/artemesia stuff i took just tear the hell out of my system? could i have an ulcer from all the meds? anybody get colon problems so bad they have to have surgery?
anything you can tell me will help.
oh yes, my primary DOES NOT believe in lyme and i can't get into my gastro, who also does not believe in lyme, for at least a month.
crap.... help........

Well that sounds like a herx but you said you havn't taken an ABX for 2 weeks??? Maybe not a herx
Digestive problems and GI problems might be the most famous symptoms of lyme next to fatigue and headaches...
Are you taking alot of probiotics? Are you taking some digestive enzymes? Multivitamins and minerals? Eating alot of vegetables?
These are things that would probly really help you out. I would also check out babesia because it can cause more GI symptoms

Randi..
I thought we were keeping the poop discussion in off topic??
Ok, seriously now...
One of the foremost symptoms of Lyme in children is gastro problems. That being said, yes I have had gastro problems all my life. Very sensitive to some food. We won't talk about the gas. That's just awful and no one likes to sit next to me at work. Pepto is something I used to consider to be a food group.
Lets put it this way...if I used vomiting, diahrreah, or constipation as a reason to not go to work, I would NEVER work another day in my life. Such is my life.
I find the probiotics help, and occasional pepto (when I am dying) and keeping food in my stomach ALL THE TIME are things that help GREATLY. I don't care if you nibble on rice cakes or crackers (hush carb counters!!) all the day long. Keep something down there unless you have meds that have to go on an empty stomach. I also sip tea with fresh lemon or lemon juice all day long. Green is better for you but regular old tetley does calm the belly quite nicely.
Keep food down there, I cannot stress it enough. Sip tea and take a probiotic every few days (you aren't on abx so you just need to replensih what you killed in the past and keep an even keel of bugs in the belly)
Keep in mind, the abx can do damage to the gallbladder, and gallbladder problems can cause a whole HOST of IBS or IBD symptoms and pain and digestion and bloating and stuff. So, try to keep the diet low in fat if you can.
Try these things...give it a week. See how you feel. All I can say is it works for me. In the meantime, see a doctor so they can tell you that its stress.

Good point itsy, you need a diet that will help you stay basic around or a little higher than the 7.0 range. Search google and find a list of foods that help you stay acidic or basic. This could help with any acid production problems that you could have...
I found digestive enzymes helped me with digesting meals. I use to drink whole milk shakes with bananas, peanut butter, coconut oil, eggs here and there, and other little things and my stomach use to groan and churn for hours afterwords. Now with the enzymes,I hear nothing!

I had this after the first couple of weeks on antibiotics (but I used to get it mildly on and off before with all the painkillers etc.) When I was on the antibiotics it got bad, central between the ribs, stomach area, then spreading under one rib (dr. said it was inflammation, I was getting worried about an ulcer) I stopped the antibiotics and it still continued. It spread under the left rib and I couldnt take a breath without it hurting. Ranatadine cured it, now I keep taking them along with the antibiotics. Hope this helps.

itsy, honey, i've learned with lyme that nothing is out of bounds!!
i mean the question that some doctors ask about poop!!! i've become very descriptive....
i suppose one could say "too much information". but how can you make an informed decision without knowing EVERYTHING about a person....
now about that diahrrea..........

Itsy, that wasn't nice talking about me like that. lol Actually the gassy stuff and gastro stuff didn't start happening to me until 6 yrs into all this stuff. That I can remember anyway????
But I've been thru darker periods. Probiotics have really helped me lately. In fact since they kicked in and started working I can say that I'm having BM within a couple hours after just about every meal. I've read that is the ideal situation.
I really think I need to start watching what I eat like Lymetoo talks about. I've made the connection between my gluten diet and disruptions. Maybe tomorrow????

It did get better I was at 90% before my dentist appointment & skin cancer was taken out of my chin they placed me on Zithormax pack I took my mino/plaqiunal with that and then I even throw in Biaxin and WAM bang down for the count. My stomach bloated up and I was in total GI distress.I stopped ALL anti's for 5 days and I fell to 70%.
My problem is in the spine it makes my legs weak flares up knee caps gives tightness around my stomach and lower back.
that was so much better for the first time in a year & months.
I am wondering if it was zith and biaxin xl together that gave me GI troubles now I'm back to square one. This totally stinks
Does anyone else have T spine lessions?

geez, guys, just got back from primary appt. i feel like a dang pin cushion. they took three vials. he's testing pancreas, liver, electrolytes, you name it.
then i have to fill up three vials and a large jar with poop!! i have to return it asap to the lab.
i brought it home because i can't go "on command".
they said they should have results by friday.
oh yep, almost forgot! HE GAVE ME FLAGYL. thank the heavens. he said well, it won't hurt you but we'd better put you on it just in case.
flagyl will treat the c. difficile and the lyme too, right?
boy, a least i feel better.
i told him tho, i'd better be well by october cause i'm off to wyoming for a month. he laughed and told me, "well hopefully you'll go through denver if you get into trouble."
so all you lymies out there better tell me about what hospitals are good in Denver, just in case.

A stool test and Flagyl = C. Diff. A nasty nasty bugger that's tough to get rid of.
And btw, Flagyl is not fun. It hits cyst form of Lyme which may cause you to flare a bit. But it will make your stomach feel better (and if you think you have gi distress now, just wait till you start the Flagyl. It gets worse before it gets better.)
Not trying to scare you, just prepare you. Stay close to the bathroom. And take TONS of probiotics (at least 3 times a day) and keep the diet clean of sugars and refined foods.
Signed Sooo been there and feeling your pain.

Hi Randi
sorry you are having so many GI problems lately
I have had chronic nausea, stomach pains & gas. Got worse with abx but have been off for a long time now. I think my problems are a combination of causes- GERD, yeast, lyme & or co-infections.
Good idea by Cave to get tested for h-pylori to rule that out.
There is a blood test for h-pylori & also the scope method. Not 100% reliable but maybe worth asking your doctor about.
Hope you can find some relief soon Dana

i'm not sure what he's testing for -- but i specifically asked him about yeast, candida, h. pylori, ulcers, let's see, oh yes, psuedomembraneous colitis, antibiotic induced colitis, c. difficile, food poisoning, you name it, i asked.
they took three vials tho and that should be enough.
they did call today and said, well at least sed rate is normal. whatever that means.
