Last night I woke at 3am with the worst sweats, feelings of nausea, clammy, heart pounding. I feel awful after a night like that. It just seems to be getting worse. 1 month today to see my LLMD, it can't come quick enough. Anyone have suggestions on books to read, related to TBD? Reliable info, that is. I'm sure there are a lot of books to stay away from as well. thanks

This is a "BIG RED FLAG" for babesia. Hopefully you can start treatment soon, make sure you persue babesia though, I think you will really improve but look out for the herxes that come with co infections, they can be scary

I agree. Be sure to mention that to your llmd.

I don't really know of any books, but look online. There is a lot of info. Dr. B's guide is very informative.

I'm sorry I can't rattle off a source for you, but there is probably good information on the "LymeNet" pages-- try some of the links at the left (for example, I see one called "books").

As for my own thoughts on what you report, it seems likely you may have babesiosis and possibly other co0infections! There is an herb called artimesia anua that is very effective against babesia. Your doc should know about this, as well as about the possibility of co-infections. It's best, of course, if you find a doc who will discuss all this stuff with you, instead of just prescribe drugs, but that's getting harder and harder to find. True "LLMD"'s are usually much better than average for this.

The standard pharma drug for babesia is atovaquone, which at this point is very expensive. Two forms of it I know of are 'mepron' (liquid), and 'malarone' (tablets). A possibly cheaper pharma alternative is quinine and clindamycin, which I did not try, as I heard there were some nasty side effects.

Did you have any testing? Testing for Lyme is very unreliable, but I think testing for co-infections may be a bit better. In any case, labs are not all equal, and a good doc will know the best ones to use.

I hope you find the optimal treatment!

Hi HaplyCarlessdave,
Do know where someone could get the info on the quinine? I regularly drink tonic water, it's the only thing that helps in certain times with my intestines. [Roll Eyes] Thanks
