I have a nasty cold, so I called LLMD just to check before taking any OTC meds.
I have CNS involvement and I'm only on 200 mg/day Doxy at present, holding until I go for IV.
I asked if there would be any reason I couldn't take an antihistimine or decongestant right now.
I was told that something mild like Children's Dimetapp should be OK.
Just some food for thought, in case anyone was interested.
I'm off now to get some Children's Dimetapp, more tissues and chicken soup because, of course I have none.

Hi AliG, I too am sick . Made the run to the store for "supplies" this am, before I got too bad.
I have used Zicam with great success before to avoid colds & the flu. I must have not gotten to it soon enough this time. I had a little help with getting it this time though -- Hubby brought it home.
I do have childrens' Dimetap so I'll take a little of that if I have to.
Chicken soup's already made!!

Last time that I had a cold I took elderberry extract, which works against viruses. I've never had a cold clear up so quickly.
quote:Sambucol is the Actual Extract Used In Clinical Studies Developed by world renowned virologist Madeleine Mumcuoglu, Ph.D.
Sambucol is the unique black elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.) extract actually used in published clinical studies. No other elderberry brand can make the same claim.
While working on her doctoral thesis, Dr. Mumcuoglu developed a proprietary method for black elderberry extraction.
You can find the scientific studies if you google for them.

sorry you're down with a bad cold, Ali.
have you ever made chicken soup from scratch? it is so easy and soo healing..
all it takes is throwing a slightly chopped up pre-roasted bird (cooked by your local grocery store) into boiling water, then turning down the heat and letting it simmer.
throw in huge amts- (cups!!)of onion and fresh chopped garlic,
simmer for an hour or so, strain out bones and the rest, maybe throw some noodles or rice in and voila-
tried and true..
big hugs to you...

Thanks Carol.
I think I still have a bottle of that, though I might have thrown it out. It made me gag & I couldn't get it down. How well/quickly did it work?

Thanks Dilly,
That's my "mother's pennicillin"! The cure-all wonder-drug that seems to work on anything but Lyme!
I already had the chicken, celery, onion, garlic and potatoes but I had to get more carrots because DD ate them all on me last night.
DARN! I forgot parsley! Oh well, just have to make due.
I've always just used the uncooked chicken, but I'll bet roasted gives more flavor. I'll have to try it sometime. Thanks for the tip.
artraveler, Thanks for the tip on the Zicam, I'll have to look into that one too. It seems like it ends up being one bug after another, once the kids get back to school.
