also startet malarone/biaxin four days ago. four pills a day. I cant say that my state has changed much since then - so at least no major sideeffects, no growing pain.
my insurance also dosnt cover it. im thinking about getting pills from somewhere where its a cheaper and where you can buy it without prescription e.g. spain. One month of malarone costs exactly I earn in one month...

Thanks guys.
Steven, our insurance only pays for one pill a day. LLMD wants hubby on four a day. So we'll have to pay for the higher dose.
Thanks all.

I'm on the start of month number three of 6 pills of Malarone per day with 1000 mg of Biaxin.
When I first started out, I thought I was in remission. I felt like myself again for about 3 or 4 days. Oh how I yearn for that to return.
Since then I have had serious herxing. Still herxing which is going on almost three straight months.
A part of me wonders how much of this is side effect from taking this high of a dose. I am counting down the days where I don't have to do this regimen any longer. I'm hoping that once off the Malarone, life will improve.
The herxing seems to be a fair amount of anxiety and fatigue. Depression is in there too because I don't want to do much these days. I'm sooo tired and frustrated with being sick for this long.
I also hate going to Costco and forking out $250 per month to get my 180 tablets of Malarone. It's such a conflict in interest in paying that much money for a drug that makes me feel aweful.
From what my LLMD tells me is that it will be worth it. After the completion of this third month we will restart Lyme treatment and see where I go from there. We might have to a Mepron and zithromax combo later on down the road.
Not that my telling you this will make it any easier.. but expect the babs treatment to be difficult to deal with. It's been harder than Lyme treatment by far.

Right now I'm taking a short break from antibiotics because of some heart issues. But I was taking it with zith and flagyl.
I don't know if the malarone is working... but I have no problems with it. Well 'cept for the price!
Good luck!!
I take that back, the price really is that bad. I got a refill today and for some reason it was cheaper. Last time it was $46.. this time it was $35. On the package is shows how much my insurance saved me and it said $650! I'm sure the insurance co. hates me. Posts: 248 | From Tejas | Registered: Jun 2007

I've been on 3 malarone daily since February, my LLMD wrote the script for 4 per day, but I just couldn't take four per day.
I remember reading something here about weight affecting the dose. I weight 110 and just couldn't take the higher dose. Last month he added flagyl, Dr. B recommends it to ramp up the effects of the malarone.
After 6 months last year on zith & mepron and 7 months this year on biaxin & malarone, adding the flagyl has definetly helped.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones when it comees to the cost, my insurance co pay is 10 bucks per rx.
