I have never done one,,,but did see that the "spa" that I had once been to did them. Do you all go to a center or is it typically done at home? How well do I have to be to do this....will it make me sicker? It was suggested by a lymphatic massage therapist that I do a liver and colon clense. Anyone know a good place in NJ or NYC? Thanks, Nikki

I don't know of a good place for you since I live in Oregon. I had a course of colonics done through the naturopathic school in my area. Mine was done by a naturopathic doctor in training.
They made me very ill. I would be laid up for a few days afterwards and feel very fluish. I felt better after the course of colonics than I had in years. I also have a colonic board that I can use at home but I got it after I had been through the course of professionally administered colonics.
You will need to replace your gut flora after each one. IE - use probiotics.

Nikib,
I can't help you as far as who to see in your area since I'm from NH, but since I've been doing these for awhile now, I can talk a bit about them.
I am not sure I would do it in a "spa" only because in my search to find someone, I found that finding someone certified and with training makes a HUGE difference. Am with my 4th person although the one before her was very good, she just got burned out and wanted to move on.
In any case...there is a very good chance that you will feel like crap afterwards. But my LLMD said that means it's working and moving toxins out of your body. Infact, my doctor said, when I feel so horrid the next day I can hardly get out of bed....I should march back in and get another one that day.
At first I thought he had to be crazy since I was so spacey and couldn't see straight when trying this, but by gosh....it really does make a difference.
Many of us have trouble detoxing fully for whatever reasons. In my case, they found it to be genetic with some testing, but although the sounds of this isn't very appealing...it does give you a huge boost.
Just my two cents and if you have more questions, feel free to write. I use an R.N. but the most important thing to check for is their certification. Trust me...I had a very horrid experience with someone just learning since I thought I would save some money. NOT a good idea.
