I think I'm going through a "herx" and it's really frustrating not knowing if it's from viral infections, Lyme, or just side effects of the medicine.

I know it's tough to differentiate, but are there any distinctions at all?

I have reactivated EBV, borderline reactivated HHV-6, and my dr thinks I also have Lyme despite testing negative.

I'm taking Amantadine, Artemisinin, Doxycycline, Cumanda, Samento, and Burbur. Since starting treatment, symptoms are much more often but a bit less severe. That seems strange to me.

vin,

hang in there, the herxes do get less intense each time. However, if you add a new medication, sometimes that causes a worse herx for a few times. Lots of water and rest, and they should pass!

You are in my prayers,

Vin,

Try to take it easy. It's hard to tell sometimes if it's a herx or not.

If a new med was added, something increased, or if it has been 3-4 since you last felt this poorly it is probably a herx.

If your just starting treatment it could be just continous symptoms for awhile.

Hang in there and stop here often. This place is my life saver.

Best wishes for feeling better soon...kit [group hug]

Well, I don't think any of those things would make you herx if you "only" had viruses as an issue.

I don't agree that the herxes get less over time.

In my case, it depended upon the antibiotic, and where the bug was in the body that was being killed.

I herxed more or less continuously for over 2 years. And 6 months into the tx, I herxed worse.

Go figure.

Just keep going, and follow your LLMD's advice.

Thanks for the feedback.

I thought a herx would be pretty obvious with severe symptoms, but I guess not. I don't feel awful, just like I'm stuck in a rut and the things I normally do to produce a "good day" aren't working.

I'm functional, but I certainly can't imagine living like this for 2 years! I guess I'll just have to hope.

I def. agree with you. Some ABX make me herx bad, others make me wanna die [bonk] In general they get less over time but when you change to a new one, it's like it starts all over again

When you are taking a bunch of things it's hard to differentiate which is doing what. For me - it built up in the beginning so that when it came on, it came on hard. It didn't happen right away. It's also hard to tell if it's the Lyme symptoms or the herx symptoms. I've had Lyme for 10 years & didn't know it, though. I've been treating it since last February. I think it's just going to take time for me. We all are different. There are also different strains of Lyme & all the co-infections. It's mind boggling at times.

I think you can moderate the herx symptoms, as well, by taking less or more of the offending agent. I don't think it really helps get rid of Lyme to go through heavy, extreme herxing as an ongoing thing. I think you really do know it when it happens & when you've over-done it. It's important to make sure to use stuff to remove the neurotoxins. Some people use chlorestramine (spelling?), chlorella, various clays, zeolites, etc. You have to find a way to get rid of the toxins so they don't get reabsorbed back into the system. Otherwise, it's an endless cycle. Good Luck! I think someone said in another post - just keep going forward & do what the doctor recommends. It's also good to do research on your own.

Vin, a number of people report that drinking Detox Tea (not Peach Detox Tea) made by Yogi Tea Co. causes an easing of herx sympotms. It might be worth a try.
