Hi - of course, it's Friday, and the doc's office is closed, and I could call the nurse but....

I had my Picc line put in 2 weeks ago. No problems, very little blood.

Now, for the first time, two weeks later, it is oozing some blood right around where it goes into the arm.

Is this normal? I am also running a slight fever, which makes me nervous, although it's under 100, and I do seem to have sinus symptoms and sore throat, so it's probably not an infection.

Is this normal? Anyone know?

Mine did that. I had it in for the first week or two with no blood coming out, then it there was a little bit of blood. My home nurse said it was no big deal, since it wasn't a lot of blood (and it wasn't continuously bleeding).

I would mention it to your nurse/doctor if you have a temp, though. After having my PICC for 4 week, i started having low grade temps (99.4) - turns out it was infected and that was an early sign; they had to pull it. It also started leaking some yellow-ish fluid from the insertion site a few days after the low grade fevers started (sorry to be so graphic!). But the temp was the first sign.

Good luck! [Smile]

Thanks Kellebelle,

I feel much better now. I will watch the fever thing, but I got a serious sore throat and the sniffles, so pretty sure it's a cold.

But I'll watch it carefully. Thanks again.
