More prayers.
Just a thought, but maybe he didn't go in early. My last surgery was scheduled for 10am, they took me to pre op holding at about 8:30 and I stayed there until 1pm and finally went for surgery.
Hang in there Gary.

Pocono,
Thanks for trying to offer up a plausible explanation. It seems I must have been given misinformation when I called.
Perhaps "recovery/ICU" is still considered being "in the OR" in hospital speak, though I did try to clarify.
I'm sorry if I caused anyone else alarm by posting the apparent misinformation I received.
I'm so glad to know that the surgery was successful. I'll continue to pray for a quick and easy recovery.

My pleasure....Getting the ET tube removed is the first big hurdle...and a tremendous relief...he can feel like he can interact with his immediate surroundings and is less out of control....that is a huge step forward....!
He's making good progress...it's just incredibily slow...slower than one would expect, but apprpriate for the extent of this surgery. It's hard on his family as well.....the surgery is so brutal and frankenstein like in that he is cut up three ways and has his stomach moved into his chest on top of his lung....That's not easy to wrap your head around.
After all that he has to learn to eat entirely differently, like a bariatric surgery patient. It's hard to adapt to...but it can be done and done well...
He's a tough old bird, our Gary...remarkable man!
Carol Ann
PS...you're a great friend to him.

carol ann,
thank you too. when i joined lymenet 3 yrs. ago, gary sent me many pms, so i got to know him that way.
later when he got so sick last year, he posted online or a pm, "have we talked before"?!
i've talked to thousands of folks especially since i've been welcoming them for over 1 year and sending them my newbie package of info.
take care carol ann; i had a neighbor girl on the farm with your name; so every time i type yours, i think of her!
