And what is w/ the Narcotics NO NO bit???
Had to go to the Duckter Monday, and he is dead set against narcotics such as Hydrocodone,I've read of others this way as well.

I've not used an Hydrododone since 'O5 for a tooth yank, I am not a 'frequent flyer', darn it all I busted up my little toe&/thejoint between it and next toe in. And I am having rotator cuff issues, even mild excercise seems to be bad for me. [cussing]

We are waiting ,yet again, for finances so I can get an anti-inflammatory/ w/ stomach easer meds. [Roll Eyes] And I can tell ya that Tylenol and Baby Asprin w/ Tums isn't touching the pain.

I'm gonna invent a new style...pillow puffs around my neck and shoulders...yeah thats it, slipperpillows too... Meanwhile....OWOWOWOOOooooooWoooooooohhhh!!!

Doctors are terrified of prescribing narcotics because the DEA actually investigates and brings criminal charges against doctors they decide are oversprecibing them.

The truth is, narcotics are not nearly as addictive as everyone, including doctors, think.

If this is a chronic pain, I recommend trying to find a pain specialist. Different meds work best on different pain.

I recently started Zanaflex for my muscle pain and it's incredible. I started at 2mg before bed, increased to 4mg before bed, then added 2mg in morning, then 2mg in the afternoon. I now take 2 mg every 5-6 hours, 4mg before bed. I harldy touch the vicodin anymore.

I need something too. The ultracet and ultram does not do it. 10 mg. of Lortab does but docs dont want to prescribe it but after surgery and thats why I know it works because of my 4 surgeries for my groshong for iv.

I do not want to be addicted either.

Advil and aspirin will wreck your gut. Tylenol will get your liver. Ibuprophen is safer but not nearly as effective.

What works best for me is my massage therapist. She finds and breaks loose knots of lactic acid and toxin build up. I make sure to drink plenty of water afterward to flush the toxins out that she has broken loose. You think the pain is in your joints. It certainly hurts in the joints, but many times the cause of the pain is in the muscles surrounding the joints. If that is the case, massage is better than anything else.

She never fails to remove my pain.

Advil is ibuprofen. Most people with Lyme pain can't get relief with over the counter.

This is a link to the Pain Foundation website. They have a publication on pain treatment options
http://www.painfoundation.org/page.asp?file=Publications/Index.htm

There is no magic pill. You need different medications and treatment depending on the type of pain you have. Most people take multiple tries to find the right medications. That is why a pain specialist is helpful.

Advil is much more damaging than ibuprophen. I have had two doctors recommend switching from Advil to Ibuprophen.

Pot.

Sorry, but marijuana is the only non-narcotic thing I can think of that might actually give you relief and not mess with your stomach. It isn't exactly an over-the-counter drug - more like an `over-the-tailgate' substance, [Smile] unless you can get a prescription for it in your state. And probably pretty expensive no matter how you obtain it.

There have been previous discussions on using marijuana for pain if you want to do a LymeNet search on the subject.

Thanks for the info', tho't I had answered this...guess not huh...sorry about that! [Embarrassed]

Things are kinda crazy right about now around here. We've had several hectic days...

Anyhows,I appreciate the info' and will check stuff out!

I'm wondering about anelgesic plants, altho' there's no way I could get medical marijuana here, besides of the issue of "Y'all hear 'bout that pastors wife that got busted for whackyweed...weeell it about broke their church apart...".

The church folk still have a problem understanding why I'm not there a lot of times
"...Gee it's not like she has cancer, MS or Rheumitoid Arthritis... she just needs to get more involved, get a hobby, speak positives, and eat more roughage[sp.?]...". OOps guess I'm being abit cynical again.

Anyhow that's where I am at...and supposedly in the beginning of remission?? But something is snagging my energy away, real quick, and I get so frsutrated at all the 'left over issues' like tendon/ligament problemsm blurred vision, constant draining pain,IC...etc.

I do appreciate the input, sorry if I sound too cynical, maybe its the meds for my shoulder and broke toe[s]?? And a trip I have to make church related, that I wish I didn't have too.[ i need to do the trip to a retreat w/ TxCoord , but I just don't want to be in meetings for hours which has happened before..] . I'm sure I'll be 'ok' just having a rough one right now.

luvs2ride,

Here is the link to Advil product information
http://www.advil.com/products/advil/tablet_label.asp

The active ingredient in advil is ibuprofen. Perhaps they have another inactive ingredient in advil that makes it more damaging than generic versions?

Advil and Motrin are ibuprofen. Aleve is naproxen sodium. Tylenol is acetaminophen.

Both ibuprofen and naproxen sodium are hard on the stomach and digestive track. Acetaminophen is hard on the liver.

I take Lodine, my LLMD gave me a rx for it. It's not a narcotic and as much as I hate to be dependent on pain killers, it's a necessary evil so that I can get through the day.

Very interesting about the Advil. Thanks for the education. Makes me wonder what the dr's doing.

Advil works way better for me than the 600mg prescription strength Ibuprophen. But with my gut, I'm not anxious for any of it. Luckily these days I am doing so well, I don't need pain killers very often.

Just amazing.

Advil inhibits prostaglandin synthesis through cyclooxygenase inhibition. There are 3 differnt types of cycloogygenasse enzymes (COX) for short.

Cox 1,2 and 3.

Cox 1 aids in the repairing of inestinal epethilial cells. Cox 2 is involved more so in localized inflammation and pain. Cox 3 has more of an effect in the brain.

Advil inhibits both Cox 1 and Cox 2.
Tylenol inhibits mostly Cox 3.

So Bextra and Viox were more Cox 2 inhibitors therefore they saved your stomach.

So taking Advil might help Cox 2 go down and inflamation, but it also comprimises your stomach and intestinal cells leading to them breaking down and bleeding ulcers.

Tylenol doesnt do this because it just acts on the way that you feel pain in the brain.

Zyflamend is an herbal COX2 inhibitor.

It got me off Bextra.

If your pain is from inflammation (and the joint type), this should help.

MARINOL!!!! Your doctor can prescribe you this- it is not psychotropic in that form!!!

Reassessment of the role of cannabinoids in the management of pain.

Beaulieu P, Ware M.
aDepartment of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology, University of Montral, Canada bDepartment of Anesthesiology and Family Medicine, McGill University Health Center, Montral, Qubec, Canada.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this article is to assess the role of cannabinoids in the treatment of acute and chronic pain in humans.

RECENT FINDINGS: Very few clinical trials looking at the analgesic effects of cannabinoids in the acute pain settings have been performed. Three recent studies have evaluated the oral administration of synthetic cannabinoids in postoperative pain. At low doses cannabinoids are not different from placebo, whereas at high doses they may be associated with adverse effects or even worsening of pain intensity.

In chronic pain patients, the safety and analgesic efficacy of a number of cannabinoid compounds have recently been evaluated in several clinical trials in several chronic pain conditions. While the small size of the trials and the relatively short duration of follow-up limits broad generalization, to date there is increasing evidence that cannabinoids are safe and effective for refractory chronic pain conditions including neuropathic pain associated with multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and peripheral neuropathy associated with HIV/AIDS.

SUMMARY: The precise role of cannabinoids in pain treatment still needs further evaluation. Cannabinoid compounds may be more effective in the context of chronic neuropathic pain than for the management of acute pain.

PMID: 17873600

MARINOL is a type of medicine called a cannabinoid. MARINOL attaches to special receptors in the brain--much like a key fits in a lock.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved MARINOL to treat nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conventional treatments.

The FDA also approved MARINOL to treat appetite loss associated with weight loss in people with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). If you have HIV/AIDS, your health care professional may prescribe MARINOL to help stimulate your appetite.

Other important facts about MARINOL:

The active ingredient in MARINOL is dronabinol

Dronabinol is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring compound known as
delta-9-THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol)

Delta-9-THC stimulates appetite and reduces nausea and vomiting by binding to special receptors found in your nervous system

Delta-9-THC is also one of many components in marijuana. In fact, delta-9-THC is the main ingredient responsible for most of marijuana's effects

MARINOL is not marijuana. MARINOL does not contain the additional chemicals and impurities associated with marijuana.

Not if the something natural also was linked
to major psychosocial functioning defecits
I wouldn't!!!!!!

Marinol is safe to drive on.

Marijuna isn't.

Hey, call me weird, but I like having a drivers license*)*!)!

Belladonna is natural*)*!)*! Lots of things are natural that are bad for you-

Marinol is safe and can help with pain.

My angel LLMD does give scripts of med marijuana for people who prefer that though- it's his call.
And YOUR call if that is YOUR choice*)! For people like me who can't do drugs even natural drugs like marijuana- without abusing them- nope, not an option. But that's me!!!

AND for most normal people who like to be out of pain even when they are driving vehicles!!!

LymeToo, I am a libertarian. I personally believe heroin ought to be legalized along with every other drug under the sun.

It doesn't mean I would ever want anyone to do it.

Opium is natural*)!!!!!!!!!
Yikes*!

I was answering the question- non narcotic- safe= specifically good for chronic Lyme like pain medication- Marinol. AND great on the stomach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helloo again <<<<< Lymer Friends >>>>>,

Wow, I appreciate all the info' given here.
I've ended up with Diclofen Potassium, and another med for my stomach.

W/ no inusrance and our LLND being almost four hours away in a different state,we had to depend on the kindly 'Duckter' an hour from us.

Next time,we'll have my Lymer Doc' call in something to Walmart and drive a couple hours over the border to Utah to get it. Well at least the [Embarrassed] local Pharmacy kept the cost under $60 one place we checked was over $100

The suff I am stuck w/ gives me. mdedicine head... [dizzy] ,and I just tripped again.which didn't help my toe and joint... [Mad]

Sheesh,it sure doens't improve my spelling...'local' is now spelled 'dal' for some odd reason... [Embarrassed] [bonk] .

We have to go out of town Thurs. for a couple days[tho' I'd rather rest]. I'm trying not to complain, and I'm at the point where I just don't care if I sound spacey... Yep Ah repristant the Choich of the Lolliplop Le'al...

Silverwolf in pretty purple boots that still cain't protect mah tootsie paws' from mmyself.

Oh...yeah, when I get back I want to revisit this thread and bookmark at least part of the info'... I am curios about some of the more natural painkiller and antibiotics etc. So much of the meds are too darn hard on my overtaxed systems...not sure how itd come uot if i tryd now...
