Hey guys,

My LLMD has me taking amantadine with Zithromax and I am jsut wondering if anybody has had experiences with this drug. How exactly is it supposed to help? My LLMD said it will make the Zith more effective against Borriella but I have been searching online and havent found anything about this. My LLMD is out of town or I would call him. Any experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Lindsay

Good question. Not sure I know the answer other than there are synergies between organisms whereby the viruses and fungi help to protect the Lyme and thus other treatments are not as effective. I have seen for example Valtrex and Sproanox being used to hit both while also treating for Lyme. Amantadine is also supposed to be good for Borna virus which is also common by some accounts.

Be well,

my hubby is taking that for his SEVERE TREMORS caused by his parkinsons. when he started this, it really helped his hands calm down without the rolling over constant tremors he was having. it plateaued; he won't go in for 6 month checkup.

fyi, we's undiagnosed lyme based on his igm/igg western blot tests after i had mine done. the beginning llmd did not know how to read it; was basing it on total pluses only.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Scott- I know I tested negative for all of the viruses, but I know that doesnt meen I dont have one.

LymeToo- I do have heart issues and have had thwem but I dont know if this medicine is increasing my symptoms. I'll be sure to ask my doctor.

Betty- I also have tremors, but do not think my doctor perscribed it for that. Maybe the medication will help them calm down though. I'd love my hands to stop shaking :-).

Does anybody else have experience with this drug as part of Lyme treatment?

Lindsay

Hi, I also got the amantadine/zithro combo.
After 3 month of IV rocephin(4d/week),
some month of oral zithromax with cefuroxime and tindamax
plus some weeks with fluconazole my LLMD
decided to try this thing.
When I read about all the side effects of amantadine I became a little scared.
As some of the side effects are actually symptoms I had/have because of lyme (mostly neuro psychological ones) its quite hard to know if its a herx or just a side effect.

I started to take it yesterday, and the first 100mg already made me feel really weired, thinking problems and a little derealisation.

Is anybody here that actually experienced some of those neuro/psychological effects when taking amantadine ?

Arne

It is used for Parkinson symptoms that can be brought on by heavy metal toxicity and microbial infections (Lyme/bacteria, fungi, mold, parasites, viruses, etc.)

Tremors, etc.: Also address heavy metals and dental infections.
My husband found that to be very true.

Take care.

Sharing our experiences.

Im just bringing this thread up again.
Im now on that Zithromax/Amantadine combo for one week.
After the 2nd day the strange psychological side effects were gone.
But then after day 4 well, it really started to kick, don't know if this is a herx, but I got symptoms back in a come and go fashion that I did not have for some month.

I would like it to be a herx, I get hardly out of my bed, but it would mean that this one helps.

It wasnt that bad on IV Rocephin and all the other meds I took so far.

Did anybody experience something like that ?
