I have just drivin back from the ER. for about 30 min I was having severe stomach pain to where all i could do was scream. It was dead center of the upper part of my abdomen. It started very mild, and then ramped up to amazing amounts of pain in a matter of 3-4 minutes. It left me doubled over on the floor unable to think or move.

My boyfriend drove me to the ER and durring the trip it kept getting worse but then almost suddenly dissipated, so we decided to go go home and wait to see if anything else happens. (that is what we are doing right now.

Also, it started with my stomach and as the pain increased moved to the upper sides of my back.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?? ( I really hope not because it was PAINFUL!)

Is this my gall Bladder? I am not sure what to think. If anyone can help, that would be amazing!

right now, i am in a litte pain, but not much.

I would suggest going to your dr and getting an ultrasound done of the abdomin to see if they can see anything.

Im sorry that you were in so much pain.

I know an ER dr that i went to when i was having very bad pelvic pain told me that all patients present differently ,

he thought mine was my apendicts, and they sure moved quickly to get me to CT....barium and injection, to light up all my organs.

It could be anything, but worth getting it checked.

hang in there.

I would suspect appendicitis also. Or intestinal blockage....or (smooth) muscle spasms.

Any fever??

I've had similar pain. For me, it appears they are related to a neuro event (possibly seizures). If the doctors can't find anything significant, I would insist on MRI and SPECT of your brain.

don't forget the pancreas. it's located right behind the stomach and to the left a little.

you might want to be scoped too. i'd find a good gastro.

i've had every test under the sun -- nothing.

What meds are you on? If ceftriaxone is one (or another ceflosporin, high-dose or i.v. ('omnicef', for example)) then the gall bladder is definitely a worry. What meds are you on for pain? You might try changing these; in any case, look up possible side effects and compare- and perhaps try adjusting dose, or using alternatives.

If the source of the pain is above your stomach, another possibility is esophageal spasms. They can come one suddenly, and disappear just as quick. I've had them, and the pain knocked me to the floor.

Sometimes esophageal spasms are caused by acid reflux, and can be controlled by acid reducing meds. If you go this route, be wary of the proton pump inhibitors like Nexium since they are so good at reducing stomach acid, 1) there's not enough left to properly digest your food, leading to gut problems, and 2) stopping them can be difficult since there's an acid rebound effect.

IMO, a med like ranitidine, which works via a different approach, is a better choice. Ranitidine lets the stomach produce some acid, and is easier to wean from since the dose is more readily adjusted.

Hey Sky.

I hope that you are feeling better! I've never experienced any pain like you described....sounds awful!

Three months of Rocephin could certainly have caused some GB issues. Did you take Actigal with it for GB protection? If it is your GB, then there will surely be more problems. Usually there is a constant pain in that area when it is the GB. I hope that it turns out to be something simple like a spasm!

I had serious gut pain in connection with poisonous pain killers I had been taking, The stuff, called ...'celebrex'..., ate holes in my intestines and a trip to the er looked imminent. YARROW saved the day, though. Prepare like tea; 1 tblsp yarrow steeped in 1 cup hot water for around 7 minutes. It's not too yummy by any stretch of the imagination, but is very protective for the gut. I kept taking it for several days, since I was also on doxycycline and cefuroxime axefil, which are also fairly rude on the G.I. system.
These elements might be worth considering.

Thank you all for the help.

So far, I have not had any more pain (thank god!!!).
I was on rocephin for 4 months, with no improvement, but lots of gall bladder meds. But then, I found out birth control lessens its gally power, and the birth control was my LLMDs Idea, to prevent my crazy hormones from fluctuating too much.

When It was happening, I kept thinking maybe it was some sort of spasm, because it was my stomach that hurt, but it was not anything in my stomach, no churning. It was weird. I was in so much pain i was having a hard time breathing...

I ate a little food today, (i have been weary of eating anything if it turns out to be my gall) and I decided just to eat some fat and see if it was my gall bladder. So far I feel just fine, so hopefully my gallbladder is not something i need to worry about.

I was so scared last night. Thank you guys for the help!

I am deffinatly going to have everything ultrasounded again to make sure everything is ok. i was ultrasounded before starting treatment, and everything was just fine.

Again, Thanks guys for the advice. [group hug]
