i know this sounds strange but here goes. well, nothing about lyme is normal is it?

i had started going downhill quickly after stopping all meds, supplements, etc. the nightsweats, shakes, joint pain, facial jerking adn twitching, everything came back with a vengence.

so i had some ceftin left over and i've gone back on that. even tho my lower abdomen is still very, very sore, i just had to do something.

the first day i took two 500 mg and that night, i thought i was going to die. i woke up ringing wet, heart pounding, and i literally was gasping for air. it might have been sleep apnea, i'm not sure, but the next day was bad too.

i've been on it for 3 days now, and here's the wierd part. i have not slept really good in a long, long time, maybe at least six months to a year or so.

last night i went to bed at about 9:30 or 10 and i slept until 3 in the morning. i couldn't believe it. i didn't take any OTC meds, no anti-depressants, nothing.

we had walked the mile yesterday and i was tired. he stayed up to watch a football came, i closed the door, and took a bath.

i put in the hydrogen peroxide and salts and soaked for about half an hour and then went to bed.

i couldn't believe it, i just passed out.

so does being on antibiotics help you to sleep? could the antibiotics reduce the "brain" load? normally i can't shut off my brain to sleep, i just keep thinking and thinking.

i'm hoping it continues as i'm just exhausted most of the time.

especially with that new study that came out and said that people who don't sleep well are twice as likely to die of heart disease.

That, plus the exercise may have helped you sleep more than the abx....but who knows?

Yes, I've heard that about the heart disease. You really need to get some meds to help you sleep if you're unable to naturally.

Our brains are messed up with keets, so any abx to help clear some of them can improve our sleep.....unless it's an abx known to keep people awake!! [Wink]

I've never had a problem with sleeping -- it's been the only time I have a "break" from this disease, so to speak.

The only time I have trouble sleeping is if I'm having a herx and I try to take a nap and keep being woken up by shortness of breath or a heart palpitation. That's something that really annoys and scares me, especially since I've only known sleep as a "safe haven". But when herxing, even sleeping can be hard for me.

I don't know if antibiotics help, though. I just know that I usually sleep well unless I'm having a herx or a hard, stressful day.

Dunno about antibiotics, but I know magnesium supplements knock me out seriously [bonk] a few hours after taking them (got hypomagnesemia, you see).

....some abx do and some don't.

Cipro acts as a sedative for lots of us....while bactrim does just the opposite. I never took cephalosporins so I have no input on those.

and everybody's different in how they react to medicine or herbs.

The hot bath would put me to sleep at times.

I was just going to put a post on abx keeping me from sleeping possibly when I ran across this post.

it looks like it is the kind of abx.

Like you say....things vary with this so much it is difficult to know one way or the other.

I just stopped all abx adn supplments too and went down hill.

I started back today.

i started Azithro 9/18 and i've been sleeping my tail off ever since! i get 6-12 hrs now and i'm lovin' every minute of it!

i also have a sleep apnea so i use a CPAP (altho i'm not the typical candidate for one.. 5'/10", 165 lbs, athlete). pre CPAP my avg was 3-4 hrs (stage 1 & 2 only), post CPAP my avg is 6 hrs and dreaming again.

i think Borrelia/Babesia is the real cause of my apnea.

i have used my CPAP every night since issued in early July. i have a Respironics M Series with C-Flex and Humidifier. i switched masks 3 wks ago.. to a Fisher & Paykel (FlexiFit 405), no leaks or discomfort.

i highly recommend using a CPAP if you're struggling with sleep issues. your body needs good rest in order to heal regardless of your ailment.

happy sleeping!
