hi everyone,

so, another TMI post from me. [Smile]

i just changed my diet a couple weeks ago, per my LLMDs instructions; i'm now gluten-free, mostly dairy-free (can only eat yogurt and butter), & refined sugar-free.

ever since the diet change, especially in the last week or so, i've been waking up with loose stools/diarrhea. i'm prone to this problem anyway (most likely because of the lyme), and now it's so much worse, a daily occurrence.

does this have anything to do with my new diet? do you think i'm undergoing some type of detox? ugh, i really hope it abates soon..

thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Heiwalove -- this looks like it should make you feel better, not worse for the most part. I think that abstaining from gluten should be really helpful.

I did not do well on dairy products. The only one I could tolerate was ghee, which is a clarified butter and I would only use it in cooking. You can buy it in natural foods stores. As my GI tract became stronger and bowel movements more regular I have been able to eat some goat cheese, and a little bit of dairy here and there, but always cooked first.

And even things sweetened with non-refined sugar was difficult for me. I couldn't eat the rice flour cookies by Pamela's etc., because it still aggravated. And in fact, most carbs aggravated, in general. I could only tolerate potatos and some Van's frozen wheat-free waffles.

But we are all different -- those are just my experiences (and very frustrating ones).

Also, could it be caused by something in your lyme protocol and maybe not diet-related? Or perhaps more stress lately?

Claire

A. I would get Metamucil. They have better flavors than the orange now-

B. Or eat lots of roughage!!!

or,

C. You may want to also try Saccharomyces Boulardii because it eats c difficile just in case you have any tendency toward that- it is available at any good health food store in the refrigerated cases and is usually in stock because not just Lymies but AIDS/HIV+ people
use it-

Take care,
Sincerely,

If your diet was significantly different before, this could be wreaking this much havoc on you. Plus, what kind of food are you eating (we know what you're not eating). Maybe it's something you've added causing the problem.

Are you taking a good probiotic?

S. boulardii is a great suggestion, too.

Are you being treated for bart? It can cause GI symptoms ... so can Lyme ...

try a good acidopholus supplement. a probiotic may help. Healthy Trinity makes a good one but is expensive. Try Vitiman Shoppe or vitacost.com

thank you for the suggestions. i am taking a probiotic, not sure how good it is, it's from a brand called 'new chapter.'

i haven't added anything particularly strange to my diet. i did eat a lot of wheat/gluten before so maybe suddenly cutting that out is wreaking some havoc. not sure. i also added a bit more meat (fish and poultry mostly). oh, and small amounts of goat cheese, since cow cheese is now forbidden.

wondering about c diff, quickly -

can you get it even if you're not on abx? (i'm not on abx yet, i have just relapsed and am just restarting treatment)

my only abdominal symptoms are loose stools and some bloating/gas; no significant pain, nausea, or loss of appetite.

any more ideas are appreciated. [Smile]

My diarrhea went away only after minocyline. Nothing - not even major diet change - got rid of it completely until I took this medication.

What's interesting is that one long day sitting in an LLMDs waiting room within earshot of a bunch of cell phone users, and my diarrhea came back with a vengeance.

You might want to consider electromagnetic fields as being a source of your GI problems. I've recently confirmed with a Trimeter that EMFs are indeed causing my Lyme to persist. I posted my Trimeter results in another thread. Found it:

You may have changed your diet to drastically. You might want to make more of a gradual transition in order to reduce the shock on your body.

You may have also cut out a lot of fiber. Maybe put some whole grains in until you get a bit more regular.
