Quick facts: Was on Minocycline 100mg (3x day) for 2 months and Cats Claw 375mg (3x day) for 3 months. The 2 months mino were at the same time as the 3 months cats claw. Recently added 2000 mg IV Rocephin. 7 days into treatment my liver enzymes are super high (they didnt say how high). I am now going every other day on the IV and increasing Milk Thistle to 1000mg / day. My liver levels have always been normal until now.

My question is:

Q: Is the high liver enzymes and indicator of a ton of toxicity as a result of the lyme dye off OR does my liver have a problem with the antibiotics which indicates an underlying liver problem ?

If I were you, I'd get a copy of the test. Best to have copies of any tests that are abnormal. How high is high?

My AST was in the high 500 range and my doc took me off everything - ran some tests, let my liver enzymes come down and then put me back on.

After I went back on, my enzymes were in the 100 range and he said that could be caused by die off. Now they are high 200's and I'm waiting for a call. Personally, I do not want liver damage. If my liver enzymes stay high for very long I will go off abx. I'm sick enough without causing myself liver damage.

I hope you are getting your enzymes tested every week if they are really high. I'm not a doctor but ultimately I need my LIVEr to live so it is my responsibility to make sure that nothing happens to it.

I hope your liver enzymes come down soon.

Terry

Get a Trimeter. Mine went up after less than one week of IV Rocephin. I wouldn't doubt that you are especially toxic because of this:

Terry and I had similar experiences with high liver enzymes at about the same time.

When the enzyme numbers were so high, my LLMD in NY took me off all treatment immediately.
Stayed on my supplements.
Had lab tests every week until numbers were in the normal range again - took about 6 weeks.

I'm now back on treatment, with one change in abx. Will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Like Terry said, be sure to get a copy of all lab results.

Does ANYONE KNOW IF the high levels could be just from the die off ? or is there something wrong with my liver?

I told you that my doctor said higher enzymes may be a result of die off but they weren't extremely high when I asked. They are in the high 200's now and I am being taken off one of my abx.

I would ask your doctor if die off could be causing your elevated enzymes. I think it will be hard for anyone here to answer. Most of us are not medical professionals and we have no idea how high your enzymes are anyway.

I wouldn't think that high liver enzymes would be good for any extended period no matter what the reasons are for having them. Just my opinion and again, I'm not a doctor.

Edited to add: antibiotics can be hard on the liver so there may be nothing wrong with your liver even if the elevated enzymes are not caused by die off. It could just be that a particular abx is hard on *your* liver.
