Is it possible to have fungus attribute to urinary tract infection. I ahve severe prostatitis which appears from lyme flairups and this time I have also developed a urinary tract infection. I have noticed my tounge coating over. Can I treat the fungus and still take the abx. I really cannot stop the prostatitis treatment right now. It appears I have to treat this lengthy.

Yes! Fungus can cause those symptoms and a pharmacist told me I can take anti-fungals and antibiotics at the same time. The reason being that they are on different ends of the spectrum.

Agree with kayda.....

DIET, DIET, DIET is the key. Then, be sure to follow the 5 step plan outlined below. It was developed by my naturopath. It works.

Candida diet and elimination:

Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals] lyme disease in Europe is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EuroLyme/

LYMETOO: have to disagree with you a little sorry.
no matter what your diet, zero carbs zero yeast,
zero everything, massive probiotics, YOU WILL STILL GET YEAST, PERIOD.
YOU CAN NOT AVOID IT BY DIET.
DIET CAN ONLY SLOW IT DOWN.
MASSIVE DOSES OF LONG TERM ABX KILL NORMA FLORA
AND CAUSE A SUPERINFECTION TO OCCUR.
this infection can be yeast, fungus, staph, strep
this will come even without feeding it.
you can not get enough replacement flora to
contain the superinfection.

i have had all the urinary infections, 2 months of excrucating kidney stones, very high psa, enough to warrant 3 seperate biopsies of 20 pieces each.

at this point you need to take diflucan or vfend.
by the way i looked at my rx bill vfend cost
my insurance $1,800 for 100 pills.
also need rx for bactrim ds for uti.
avodart for prostatitis.
bactrim bs is a sulfonamide, if you are allergic to sulfur can not take.

strange drug this bactrim ds.
almost everybody that has taken it from lymenet,
for uti have herxed fairly severely.
it appears that bb does not like the bactrim
and it seems to kill bb in blood stream??????

there is question as to whether cranberry juice
works to stop kidney stones.
my last urinary doc said no help.
but there are new drugs to use for certain types
of kidney stones.
hope this helps and sorry tootoo
you must be on the antiyeast meds 4-6 weeks to kill all the yeast, in many of us that take it often, we feel it is a necessary evil in cleaning up many symptoms of lyme.

bc,

A number of years ago I found myself in a really bad cycle of yeast problems and bacterial problems. Everytime I killed the yeast, the bacteria grew in its place.

I ended up needing to take Diflucan and antibiotics at the same time, along with following a strict diet and probiotics.

Currently, I find help fighting yeast with Cumanda. It's an herb available from nutramedix.
